Metal Vanadium Oxide Particles

View page
US Patent:
6749966, Jun 15, 2004
Filed:
Apr 1, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/113998
Inventors:
Hariklia Dris Reitz - Santa Clara CA
James P. Buckley - San Jose CA
Sujeet Kumar - Fremont CA
Yu K. Fortunak - Fremont CA
Xiangxin Bi - San Ramon CA
Assignee:
NanoGram Devices Corporation - Fremont CA
International Classification:
H01M 458
US Classification:
4292312, 2525181, 4235948, 4292181, 429219, 4292311
Abstract:
Laser pyrolysis can be used to produce directly metal vanadium oxide composite nanoparticles. To perform the pyrolysis a reactant stream is formed including a vanadium precursor and a second metal precursor. The pyrolysis is driven by energy absorbed from a light beam. Metal vanadium oxide nanoparticles can be incorporated into a cathode of a lithium based battery to obtain increased energy densities. Implantable defibrillators can be constructed with lithium based batteries having increased energy densities.

US Patent:
20030077221, Apr 24, 2003
Filed:
Oct 1, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/969025
Inventors:
Shivkumar Chiruvolu - Sunnyvale CA, US
Yu Fortunak - Fremont CA, US
International Classification:
C01F007/02
US Classification:
423/625000, 423/628000
Abstract:
Collections of particles are described that include crystalline aluminum oxide selected from the group consisting of delta-AlOand theta-AlO. The particles have an average diameter less than about 100 nm. The particles generally have correspondingly large BET surface areas. In certain embodiments, the particle collections are very uniform. In some embodiments, collections of particles include doped aluminum oxides particles with an average diameter less than about 500 nm. The collections of particles can be deposited as coatings. Methods are described for producing desired aluminum oxide particles.
