System And Method For Fiber Optics Based Direct View Giant Screen Flat Panel Display

View page
US Patent:
7233722, Jun 19, 2007
Filed:
Aug 15, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/203865
Inventors:
Yee Chun Lee - Mountain View CA, US
Assignee:
General Display, Ltd. - Mountain View CA
International Classification:
G02B 6/26
G02B 6/36
US Classification:
385 31, 385 17, 385 89
Abstract:
An apparatus and method for displaying large format images, graphics, and videos. The apparatus comprise a layer of column oriented optical fibers, each fiber is illuminated at one end by at least one laser diode, and a second layer which sits in front of the first layer and is parallel to the first layer, whose projected area substantially overlap that of the first layer. The second layer comprises a plurality of optical fibers arranged in rows. In between the first and second layer sits a third layer of optical switching elements. Alternatively, the second layer can be a light diffusing layer. Laser lights emitted from the laser diodes travel in parallel along respective column fiber until they are redirected by optical switching elements which couple the laser lights within the column fibers to the row fibers or to the difflusing layer directly whereby they are scattered by the diffusing elements to reach the viewing audience. The small size of the fibers results in very small fill factor, allowing light absorbing matrix and backing layer to absorb ambient light effectively. The contrast ratio under ambient light condition is further enhanced by the use of multilayer dielectric optical filter to preferentially absorb ambient light.

International Classification:
G06Q 10/00
US Classification:
705 10
Abstract:
A method and system that enables users to generate and manage forecasts through an integrated software tool. Forecast administrators are enabled to create forecast series data that define a forecast's structure and provide search criteria that is used in generating forecasts. These data also define who may participate in creating forecasts, and their relative position in an organization's hierarchy. Users are also enabled to enter a variety of forecast data that are stored by the system. Various forecast data are then retrieved corresponding to the user, applicable subordinates, and parameters defined by the forecast series. Users may then fine-tune their forecasts and submit their forecasts to their managers. The managers are enabled to adjust and roll up their subordinate's forecasts to produce their own forecasts. This process may be recursively applied while moving up through various layers of management defined by the organization's hierarchy.

System And Method For Contactless Touch Screen

View page
US Patent:
8274495, Sep 25, 2012
Filed:
May 25, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/787340
Inventors:
Yee Chun Lee - San Jose CA, US
Assignee:
General Display, Ltd. - San Jose CA
International Classification:
G06F 3/042
US Classification:
345175, 356614, 178 1809, 359559
Abstract:
A touch screen that employs a lens-less linear IR sensor array and an IR light source from a single location at the periphery of the screen to illuminate one or more objects proximate to the screen surface and detect light reflected from such objects. The sensor array is paired with a proximal grid-like barrier/reflector to create Moiré patterns on the sensor array. Digital signal processing converts such patterns into discrete Fourier transforms. The peaks of the lower order discrete Fourier spectrum as well as the complex phases of the lower order peaks can be used to determine the locations of the objects proximal to the screen accurately. A small number of pressure or surface acoustic sensors at the periphery of the screen are utilized to improve positioning reliability by providing redundant positioning information and registering physical contacts with the screen.
