US Patent:
7982585, Jul 19, 2011
Filed:
Feb 28, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/712641
Inventors:
Li-Cheng Richard Zai - Los Gatos CA, US
Xinyu Harry Zang - Sunnyvale CA, US
International Classification:
H04Q 5/22
G06K 7/10
US Classification:
340 101, 340 102, 340 103, 340 104, 23546246
Abstract:
A method and an apparatus for evaluating an expression embedded inside a communication packet received from an RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) interrogator device are described. The evaluation result may determine a selection with another RFID interrogator device. An RFID data packet may be sent to an RFID interrogator device based on a selection to be associated with the RFID interrogator. A task may be performed based on the evaluation as instructed by a remote RFID interrogator through a command included in the wireless communication packet.

Method And Apparatus For A Secure Rfid System

US Patent:
20050061875, Mar 24, 2005
Filed:
Sep 9, 2004
Appl. No.:
10/937580
Inventors:
Li-Cheng Zai - Los Gatos CA, US
Xinyu Zang - Sunnyvale CA, US
International Classification:
G06K015/00
US Classification:
235383000
Abstract:
The method and apparatus for a secure RFID system provide a secure environment that the passwords are not known by a large number of operators and a reader ceases to operate if it is taken away from its authorized operator. The secure RFID system consists of tags, readers, authentication cards, and digital signature cards. The passwords are stored in the authentication cards and cannot be read by typical operators. The reader ceases to operate if the ticket in the authentication card expires or it is separated from the paired wireless authentication card. The authenticity of the tag data is ensured by using the signature card.

Method And System Of Using A Rfid Reader Network To Provide A Large Operating Area

View page
US Patent:
20050088284, Apr 28, 2005
Filed:
Oct 8, 2004
Appl. No.:
10/962073
Inventors:
Li-Cheng Zai - Los Gatos CA, US
Xinyu Zang - Sunnyvale CA, US
International Classification:
H04Q005/22
US Classification:
340010200
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a method and apparatus for using a RFID reader network to provide a large operating area, thereby enabling multiple RFID readers to simultaneously operate with minimal interference among all the RFID readers in the same network. The RFID network comprises a plurality of RFID readers connected to a server via a network backbone. Each operating RFID reader is associated with a group of neighboring RFID readers. A neighboring RFID reader is defined as a RFID reader that can detect tag responses for the communication between the operating RFID reader and its RFID tags. Each operating RFID reader sends its neighboring RFID readers at least one Tag Operation (TO) packet before starting to communicate with RFID tags and at least one End of Tag Operation (ETO) packet after the tag operation is completed. To avoid interference, each RFID reader uses a listen-before-talk scheme in which it checks if any TO packet has been sent by neighboring RFID readers before starting radio transmission. If both RFID readers are allowed to transmit, the RFID reader with a neighboring RFID reader just finishing transmission has the higher priority. This approach improves the throughput by taking advantage of the overlapped areas of neighboring RFID readers.

Method And System Of Using Active Rfid Tags To Provide A Reliable And Secure Rfid System

US Patent:
20050093679, May 5, 2005
Filed:
Oct 29, 2004
Appl. No.:
10/978125
Inventors:
Li-Cheng Zai - Los Gatos CA, US
Xinyu Zang - Sunnyvale CA, US
International Classification:
H04Q005/22
US Classification:
340010200
Abstract:
The system of the present invention includes a large-zone RFID reader, a plurality of small-zone RFID readers, and a plurality of RFID tags. The large-zone RFID reader covers areas which are not covered by the small-zone RFID readers. The output power of the small-zone RFID readers is controlled by the large-zone RFID reader based on RFID tag operation patterns of the small-zone RFID readers. The system reliability is improved by a method that uses reliable RFID tags, RFID reader beacon signals, and RFID tag's repetitive transmitting signals to detect tag failures. The system security is provided by a method that uses integrated crypto engines in both the RFID tags and RFID readers.

Location Based Electronic Sign System

US Patent:
20080284566, Nov 20, 2008
Filed:
Jun 25, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/823064
Inventors:
Li-Cheng Richard Zai - Los Gatos CA, US
Xinyu Harry Zang - Sunnyvale CA, US
Sophia Fang-Jung Liu - Cupertino CA, US
International Classification:
H04Q 1/00
US Classification:
340 756
Abstract:
A method and an apparatus for determining the proximity between an electronic sign and one or more object items to transmit presentation information to the electronic sign are described. The determination may be based on a signal wirelessly generated from the electronic sign. The presentation information displayed at the electronic sign may describe the one or more object items. Locations of the one or more object items may be determined based on wirelessly received identifiers of the one or more objects items, a portable wireless device, and the electronic sign.
