An instant defense barrier for providing unobtrusive protection for a building or other site. A plurality of barrier post assemblies are anchored in the earth. Each assembly includes a barrel and a post slidably fitted in the barrel. The head end of the post portion is essentially flush with the level of the roadbed when the post is in the normal, non-extended position. When activated by closing a switch, the post is propelled from the confined position in the barrel by an explosive charge, a compression spring or other propulsive forces to a locked extended position to provide a barrier against unauthorized passage by a motor vehicle. A plurality of auxiliary cables are optionally connected between adjacent posts to provide further obstruction to the progress of small vehicles, such as motorcycles or bicycles.

A low cost compact folding binocular which collapses for storage to a relatively thin package and which includes the customary focus and interpupillary distance adjustments. A pair of complementary housings comprising an objective lens section and an ocular lens section provide a pair of laterally spaced column portions adapted to be mutually slidably engaged in telescoping relation. A retractable or removable lens holder element having a lens secured thereto or integrally formed therein is attached to one end of each of the column portions. A central web portion joining at least one of the pairs of laterally spaced column portions and fabricated from a flexible material permits the lateral spacing of the column portions to be manually adjusted to provide the interpupillary adjustment. Focus adjustment is provided by the telescoping relationship between the column portions of the two sections. A biasing spring or strip of unitary springlike material automatically extends each retractable lens holder element to the viewing position when the instrument is unfolded.

In one embodiment of the present disclosure, a method of manufacturing perforated metal honeycomb material includes: printing a roll of metal foil with adhesive; laser perforating the roll of metal foil to provide a plurality of holes in the metal foil; sheeting the printed and perforated roll of metal foil into a plurality of stacked sheets; and laminating the sheets of metal foil into a honeycomb before expansion block (HOBE). In another embodiment of the present disclosure, a perforated metal honeycomb structure includes a metal honeycomb structure having a plurality of laser-drilled holes wherein at least some of the plurality of holes are non-uniform in size, shape, and/or spacing between holes.
