Method And Apparatus For Remote Update Of Clients By A Server Via Broadcast Satellite

View page
US Patent:
6614804, Sep 2, 2003
Filed:
Mar 22, 1999
Appl. No.:
09/273697
Inventors:
Andrew T. McFadden - Cupertino CA
Mark Wagner - San Mateo CA
Wei Huang - Mountain View CA
Dean J. Blackketter - San Francisco CA
Michael A. Killianey - San Mateo CA
Alan G. Bishop - Campbell CA
Assignee:
WEBTV Networks, Inc. - Mountain View CA
International Classification:
H04J 316
US Classification:
370468, 370316, 709226
Abstract:
The invention involves transmission download of data to plural, mass storage medium-based remote users of content or software upgrades or multiple versions. Optionally provided are pre-download scheduling of one or more future download sessions and post-download remote scripted software execution by the remote clients. For purposes of more efficient use of the transmission link, low-volume scheduling information or content are transmitted within designated narrow-bandwidth sub-channels or trickle streams allocated within the broad bandwidth of the transmission channel and such allocation may be dynamic to vary the allocation based upon relative high-volume, high-speed and low-volume, low-speed demands. The invention is implemented in software residing primarily in the server computer connected with the transmission provider. The software schedules allotted bandwidth within the broadcast band of the transmission link and formats high-volume data for transmission within sub-allocation channels logically devised therein.

Circuit Component Placement

US Patent:
6768142, Jul 27, 2004
Filed:
May 8, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/140965
Inventors:
Anwar Ali - San Jose CA
Tauman T. Lau - San Jose CA
Max M. Yeung - San Jose CA
Ken Nguyen - San Jose CA
Wei Huang - San Jose CA
Assignee:
LSI Logic Corporation - Milpitas CA
International Classification:
H01L 2710
US Classification:
257203, 257786, 257782, 257459, 257202, 257207, 257208, 257211, 257784, 257779, 257780, 257773, 257775, 257776, 257691, 438128, 438129, 438612, 438666
Abstract:
A method for designing an input output cell of an integrated circuit. The input output cell has a required area, a width, and a height. The bonding pad pitch length between adjacent bonding pads of the integrated circuit is measured. The width of the input output cell is specified to be substantially equal to the bonding pad pitch length. The required area is divided by the width to determine a first value, and the height of the input output cell is specified to be substantially equal to the first value. In this manner, the width of the input output cells is no greater than the distance between two adjacent bonding pads, and thus the input output cells can be placed very close together, facilitating their use in input output limited integrated circuit designs. However, the height of the input output cells is no greater than is necessary to enclose the required area of the input output cell, thus facilitating their use in core limited integrated circuit designs. In various preferred embodiments, the bonding pads for the input output cells are disposed within their surface areas, thereby further reducing the surface area of the integrated circuit that is required for the input output functions of the integrated circuit.

Method Of Routing A Redistribution Layer Trace In An Integrated Circuit Die

View page
US Patent:
6925626, Aug 2, 2005
Filed:
Aug 13, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/640738
Inventors:
Ken Nguyen - San Jose CA, US
Wei Huang - Fremont CA, US
Assignee:
LSI Logic Corporation - Milpitas CA
International Classification:
G06F017/50
US Classification:
716 12
Abstract:
A method of routing a metal layer trace in an integrated circuit die includes steps of: (a) receiving as input a netlist of an integrated circuit die; (b) selecting a redistribution layer trace from the netlist for routing the redistribution layer trace between an I/O pad of the integrated circuit die and a termination point; (c) comparing a trace width of the redistribution layer trace with a maximum trace width limit; and (d) if the trace width of the redistribution layer trace exceeds the maximum trace width limit, then routing the redistribution layer trace as a plurality of separate parallel traces each having a trace width that is less than the selected maximum trace width limit.

Method Of Sizing Via Arrays And Interconnects To Reduce Routing Congestion In Flip Chip Integrated Circuits

View page
US Patent:
7107561, Sep 12, 2006
Filed:
Aug 9, 2004
Appl. No.:
10/914657
Inventors:
Anwar Ali - San Jose CA, US
Wei Huang - San Jose CA, US
Assignee:
LSI Logic Corporation - Milpitas CA
International Classification:
G06F 17/50
G06F 9/45
US Classification:
716 10, 716 13
Abstract:
A method and computer program are disclosed for reducing routing congestion in an integrated circuit design that include steps of: (a) receiving as input a design for an integrated circuit die having an inner metal layer and a top metal layer wherein the design includes electrical constraints of each of a plurality of I/O circuits in the integrated circuit die; (b) selecting a number of vias for a via array to form an electrical connection between the inner metal layer and the top metal layer of the integrated circuit die that connects a solder bump formed on the top metal layer to a corresponding one of the plurality of I/O circuits wherein the number of vias is selected to satisfy the electrical constraints of the corresponding one of the plurality of I/O circuits; and (c) generating as output the number of vias determined for the via array.

High Dynamic Range Optical Receiver

View page
US Patent:
7242871, Jul 10, 2007
Filed:
Jul 29, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/630535
Inventors:
Wei Huang - San Jose CA, US
Yuriy Shkelev - San Francisco CA, US
Assignee:
Harmonic Inc. - Sunnyvale CA
International Classification:
H04B 10/06
US Classification:
398210, 398202
Abstract:
An optical receiver, for use for instance in an analog optical communications system such as a return path in cable television, operates over a wide range of input power to its photodetector. This is accomplished by providing in the optical receiver a series of RF amplifier stages where at least one of the stages includes a fixed attenuator and a parallel amplifier with switches suitably connected so that, at any one time, only one of the fixed attenuator or the amplifier is in the signal path. The switches are controlled so that the dynamic range of the optical receiver is improved in order to make gain reduction more accurate. Hence by redirecting the RF signal path to either the attenuator or amplifier of the amplifier stage, excessive noise and distortion by the amplifier stage are eliminated or reduced.
