Validation Method And Data Structures For Wireless Communications

View page
US Patent:
7286498, Oct 23, 2007
Filed:
Aug 9, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/200508
Inventors:
Vincent P. LaBella - Cohoes NY, US
Paul Thibado - Fayetteville AR, US
Assignee:
H-ITT, LLC - Cocoa FL
International Classification:
H04H 1/00
US Classification:
370312, 370313, 370379, 370476
Abstract:
A response monitoring apparatus using a remote including an electrical circuit including a user activated input, a transmitter, and a receiver, where the electrical circuit is adapted to detect operation of the user activated input and temporarily activates the receiver. A validation and error checking system ensures valid transmissions occurring in both wireless and wired communications. The validation and error checking system retrieves data from the remote memory to create transmission data groups. The validation and error checking system calculates a checksum value for the transmission data groups and creates a checksum data group that includes the checksum. The validation and error checking system transmits the data and ensures that the data is properly sent. The tests to determine valid transmission include checking particular bits of the transmitted data, calculating a checksum and comparing it to the transmitted checksum, and transmitting two or more data packets and comparing the values of the packets.

Above Room Temperature Ferromagnetic Silicon

View page
US Patent:
7405086, Jul 29, 2008
Filed:
Mar 22, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/085938
Inventors:
Vincent Patrick LaBella - Cohoes NY, US
Martin Bolduc - Albany NY, US
Chaffra Adeyandju Awo-Affouda - Albany NY, US
Mengbing Huang - Guilderland NY, US
Assignee:
The Research Foundation of State University of New York - Albany NY
International Classification:
H01L 21/00
H01L 29/82
US Classification:
438 3, 257421, 148239, 4288423
Abstract:
A manganese-implanted silicon substrate exhibits ferromagnetism and a Curie temperature above room temperature when magnetized. The implant is done at a temperature of between about 250 C and about 800 C, while the manganese concentration is between about 0. 01 atomic percent and 10 atomic percent. The silicon substrate can be p- or n-type with a doping concentration between 10and 10cm. Annealing may be done to increase the saturation magnetization.

Validation Method For Transmitting Data In A Two-Way Audience Response Teaching System

View page
US Patent:
7924759, Apr 12, 2011
Filed:
Aug 8, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/501460
Inventors:
Vincent P. LaBella - Cohoes NY, US
Paul Thibado - Fayetteville AK, US
Assignee:
H-ITT, LLC - Cocoa FL
International Classification:
H04H 20/71
US Classification:
370312, 370313, 370346, 370349, 370352, 455 201, 455 305, 455 39, 434336, 434350
Abstract:
A response monitoring apparatus using a remote including an electrical circuit including a user activated input, a transmitter, and a receiver, where the electrical circuit is adapted to detect operation of the user activated input and temporarily activate the receiver. After an activation period, the electrical circuit turns off the receiver to conserve battery power. Both signal verification and time monitoring may be used to generate the signal to turn of the receiver. Different transmission and receiving wavelengths are utilized at both the remote and the base unit, and a sensory output is provided on the remote to indicate receipt and acknowledgement of the signal received from the main processor. Different activation codes are sent back to the receiver to generate different sensory outputs. A supplemental teaching method for using the two way teaching apparatus is also provided.
