Universal Application Programming Interface Having Generic Message Format

View page
US Patent:
6594685, Jul 15, 2003
Filed:
Apr 14, 1999
Appl. No.:
09/291869
Inventors:
Rajesh K. Mishra - West Yarmouth MA
Vinayak V. Antarkar - West Yarmouth MA
Assignee:
Excel Switching Corporation - Hyannis MA
International Classification:
G06F 1516
US Classification:
709203, 709206, 370352, 370399, 370400
Abstract:
The present invention is a universal application program interface (API) utilizing a generic message format for performing call control processing and capable of being customized to meet telecommunications application and network signaling protocol requirements. The generic message formats have programmable fields for transmitting commands, status, and data between the host application and the switch. The present invention further provides the switch the ability to perform switching functions between ports associated with distinct protocols without supervision from the host application. The universal API of the present invention may be implemented to achieve communications internal to the switch as well. For example, the generic messages of the universal API may be used to support communications between any software layer within the switch.

System And Method For Qos Control Of Ip Flows In Mobile Networks

View page
US Patent:
20120195196, Aug 2, 2012
Filed:
Aug 3, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/197051
Inventors:
Rajat Ghai - Sandwich MA, US
Yuyong Zhang - Nashua NH, US
Vinayak Antarkar - Charlestown MA, US
Vinay Avasthi - Bangalore, IN
International Classification:
H04W 28/10
US Classification:
370235
Abstract:
A system and methods for application control which enable the delivery of Rich Internet Applications such as HD/Video Stream, Gaming, and Webservice delivery over mobile operator's PLMN is disclosed. The methods define Application Program Interfaces for Application Service Providers for delivering rich applications such as NetFlix Video service, Interactive Network Gaming etc., over wireless mobile network using state of the art web protocols such as HTTP, RTMP etc. The platform that incorporates these methods interacts with 3GPP/UMTS/LTE/CDMA defined standard compliant network devices using the standard network interfaces and present application specific control function. It further identifies extensions to the logical interfaces defined by the corresponding standards (3GPP, 3GPP2 etc.). Additionally, methods and procedures for controlling QoS in the transit network gateways, such as SGSN, GGSN, or P-GW, while delivering application traffic, are also disclosed.

Arrangement For Providing Network Protocol Data Independence In An Expandable Telecommunications System

US Patent:
6463056, Oct 8, 2002
Filed:
Mar 18, 1999
Appl. No.:
09/272659
Inventors:
Michael C. Silva - Centerville MA
Mark P. Hebert - Kingston MA
Rajesh K. Mishra - West Yarmouth MA
Vinayak V. Antarkar - West Yarmouth MA
Assignee:
Excel Switching Corp. - Hyannis MA
International Classification:
H04J 316
US Classification:
370356, 370410, 370469, 379 9301, 379 9307, 379 9331, 709228
Abstract:
A network protocol data intelligence (NPDI) software in the switching node that enables the call processing components in the L and L applications to interpret and manipulate different network signaling data protocols. The call processing applications are expanded to understand different network signaling protocols and to extract the required information from each protocols data stream. The NPDI provides the means for the L application to convert from one network signaling data format to another either, by itself or in conjunction with the L application. Thus, the system operator may configure the switch to perform all call processing functions or by-pass the NPDI and have the L application perform these functions. The L application may also perform data translation from host applications written against the underlying network protocol to the different signaling protocols from other networks. Thus, a host application written against one network signaling protocol may communicate with an application using another signaling protocol without modification to the host application.
