Method For Controlling Cylinder Deactivation

View page
US Patent:
7836866, Nov 23, 2010
Filed:
May 20, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/123912
Inventors:
Todd R. Luken - Dublin OH, US
David S. Bates - Marysville OH, US
Assignee:
Honda Motor Co., Ltd. - Tokyo
International Classification:
F02D 7/00
F02D 7/02
US Classification:
123481, 701112
Abstract:
A method of controlling a cylinder deactivation system is disclosed. Information from one or more sensors is received by a control unit. The control unit compares the current values of a parameter with one or more prohibited ranges in order to determine if cylinder deactivation should be prohibited. The one or more prohibited ranges are discrete ranges, each with a lower limit and an upper limit.

Turbocharged Engine Using An Air Bypass Valve

View page
US Patent:
8136357, Mar 20, 2012
Filed:
Aug 27, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/199319
Inventors:
Todd R. Luken - Dublin OH, US
James S. Robinson - Delaware OH, US
Assignee:
Honda Motor Co., Ltd. - Tokyo
International Classification:
F03B 33/44
US Classification:
60611, 60285
Abstract:
A system to cool exhaust gas entering a catalytic converter in a turbocharged engine is disclosed. An air bypass valve is controlled to vent pressurized air to the atmosphere to overrev a turbocharger when exhaust gas exceeds a predetermined temperature. The rotation of the turbocharger increases to maintain a desired boost pressure. When this occurs, the turbocharger absorbs more energy from the exhaust gas to maintain the desired boost pressure. Thus, the exhaust gas entering the catalytic converter is cooled.

Method Of Controlling Fuel Composition Learning

View page
US Patent:
8443655, May 21, 2013
Filed:
Sep 6, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/225831
Inventors:
Kenji David Matsuura - Marysville OH, US
Todd Robert Luken - Dublin OH, US
Hirokazu Toyoshima - Dublin OH, US
Assignee:
Honda Motor Co., Ltd. - Tokyo
International Classification:
G01M 15/04
US Classification:
7311432, 73 2332
Abstract:
A method of controlling fuel composition learning includes steps of monitoring changes in airflow within an engine to determine steady state conditions. The method further includes steps of initiating a fuel composition learning process during steady state conditions. A current fuel component concentration factor is updated using a temporary fuel component concentration factor. The temporary fuel component concentration factor is calculated as the average of an air/fuel correction factor. Once the current fuel component concentration factor is updated, the temporary fuel component concentration factor is reset. The air/fuel correction factor is reset to reflect any difference that existed between the temporary fuel component concentration factor and the air/fuel correction factor at the update time.

Engine Idle Stability Control System Using Alternator Feedback

View page
US Patent:
8515645, Aug 20, 2013
Filed:
Apr 22, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/092180
Inventors:
Andrew M. Bucci - Hilliard OH, US
Todd R. Luken - Dublin OH, US
Assignee:
Honda Motor Co., Ltd. - Tokyo
International Classification:
G06F 19/00
G06G 7/70
US Classification:
701 99
Abstract:
An engine idle stability control method and system using feedback from alternator of a motor vehicle is described. An excitation current of the alternator is detected and used to predict an alternator torque value. The predicted alternator torque is used to determine an adjustment to engine torque output. Engine torque output is adjusted to compensate for the predicted alternator torque and engine idle stability is maintained.

Method For Controlling An Intake System

View page
US Patent:
8590504, Nov 26, 2013
Filed:
May 8, 2009
Appl. No.:
12/463091
Inventors:
Todd R. Luken - Dublin OH, US
Assignee:
Honda Motor Co., Ltd. - Tokyo
International Classification:
F02D 13/06
US Classification:
123198F, 12318453, 12318455, 12318459
Abstract:
A method and a system for controlling an intake system for an engine is disclosed. The method includes steps for selecting an intake mode according to the current engine speed and the current cylinder mode. The method may be used for controlling an intake system in conjunction with a multi-displacement engine having one or more cylinders that may be deactivated.

Method For Controlling A Fuel Injector

View page
US Patent:

Assignee:
Honda Motor Co., Ltd. - Tokyo
International Classification:
F02M 69/00
US Classification:
123445
Abstract:
A method of controlling a fuel injector is disclosed. Multiple airflow rate regimes are associated with different fuel injection control methods. In one example, a low airflow rate regime is associated with a speed density control method and a high airflow rate regime is associated with an airflow meter control method.

Engine Start Up Control For A Motor Vehicle

View page
US Patent:
20130073190, Mar 21, 2013

Sep 21, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/238168
Inventors:
Michael Neisen - Coon Rapids MN, US
Dan Nagashima - Dublin OH, US
Todd Luken - Dublin OH, US
Takahide Mizuno - Dublin OH, US
Assignee:
Honda Motor Co., Ltd. - Tokyo
International Classification:
F02D 28/00
US Classification:
701113
Abstract:
A method of controlling an engine during starting is disclosed. During cold starting and following a refueling, a default alcohol value is used to control various systems associated with the engine, including fuel injection and ignition timing. The default alcohol value is used to ensure reliable starting. During non-cold starting and following a refueling, the current alcohol value is used to minimize fuel inefficiencies.
