Surface Rotation Speed Detection In Spray Systems

View page
US Patent:
7730850, Jun 8, 2010
Filed:
Nov 15, 2004
Appl. No.:
10/990103
Inventors:
James Khoury - Strongsville OH, US
Drew Roberts - Concord OH, US
Lenzie Borders - Cleveland Heights OH, US
Charles Nagy - North Ridgeville OH, US
Timothy Wilson - Wakeman OH, US
Assignee:
Nordson Corporation - Westlake OH
International Classification:
B05C 11/10
US Classification:
118668, 118679, 118686, 118713
Abstract:
A spray application system for applying material to a surface of a rotating body such as a beverage can includes a detector that detects the actual speed of rotation of the surface during a spraying operation. This allows a controller to adjust trigger signals for the application device to be adjusted based on speed of rotation to minimize overcoat. A laser sensor may be used as an example. The use of the speed detector also allows for partial wraps as well as full wraps of applying material to the rotating surface.

Apparatus And Methods For Dispensing Minute Amounts Of Liquid

View page
US Patent:
20030185096, Oct 2, 2003
Filed:
Nov 26, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/296673
Inventors:
Thomas Hollstein - Hill Drive OH, US
Margaret Ruminski - Garfield Heights OH, US
James Smith - Rock Creek Run OH, US
Michael Zgayb - Lorain OH, US
James Messerly - Stow OH, US
John Dillon - Lorain OH, US
Timothy Wilson - Huron OH, US
International Classification:
B01F013/08
US Classification:
366/273000
Abstract:
A dispensing apparatus is provided that dispenses minute quantities of liquid material, such as, for example, pharmaceutical suspensions, while maintaining substantial homogeneity of the suspension. In one embodiment, the apparatus includes a mixing device that stirs, agitates or otherwise imparts motion to the suspension that is contained in a reservoir. For example, a mixing device is realized in the form of a magnetic impeller, mixer or stirrer that is disposed within the suspension. A series of magnets external to the reservoir are rotated to produce a rotating magnetic field that induces rotation of the impeller.

Assignee:
TECAT ENGINEERING, INC. - ANN ARBOR MI
International Classification:
H04B 1/04
US Classification:
4551275
Abstract:
A method of operating a wireless sensing system includes activating a sensor to generate an output. A transmitter is activated, and is in electrical communication with the sensor to receive the sensor output signal. The sensor output signal is transmitted by the transmitter to a receiver. The transmitter is then de-activated after the transmitting step.
