International Classification:
F16H 57/04
US Classification:
475160
Abstract:
A gear train assembly includes a first reduction planetary gear set having a rotating carrier and a second reduction planetary gear set having a non-rotating carrier. A plurality of vanes are attached to the carrier to direct oil from an oil bath towards the non-rotating carrier as the rotating carrier rotates.

Control System For Diverting Oil From A Clutch

View page
US Patent:
59883359, Nov 23, 1999
Filed:
Jun 2, 1998
Appl. No.:
9/088986
Inventors:
Kent A. Kupferschmid - East Peoria IL
Rick A. Laylock - Washington IL
Timothy F. Nusz - Wyoming IL
Daniel J. Whiting - Bloomington IL
Assignee:
Caterpillar Inc. - Peoria IL
International Classification:
B60K 4122
US Classification:
192 358
Abstract:
A control system diverts cooling and/or lubricating fluid from a selected one of a plurality of fluid actuated clutches in a transmission in response to the transmission being in a selected gear ratio. A diverter valve is placed between a source of cooling and/or lubricating fluid and the selected one of the fluid actuated clutches and operative to divert fluid therefrom in response to the transmission being placed in the selected gear ratio. A sensor arrangement is operative to sense the transmission gear ratio and deliver a signal to condition the diverter valve.

Planetary Transmission With Direct Drive Through The Front Triple Planetary Gearsets By A Single Clutch

View page
US Patent:
59249510, Jul 20, 1999
Filed:
Dec 11, 1997
Appl. No.:
8/989215
Inventors:
James E. Winzeler - East Peoria IL
Rick A. Laylock - Washington IL
Timothy F. Nusz - Wyoming IL
Assignee:
Caterpillar Inc. - Peoria IL
International Classification:
F16H 362
F16H 5710
US Classification:
475275
Abstract:
A planetary transmission is disclosed including a front section having a first, a second, and a third planetary gear set each having a sun gear, a planet carrier and a ring gear. An input shaft is connected to at least two of the sun gears and the carrier of the third planetary gear set serves as the output. The front section of the transmission is operatively connected to a rear section for multi-speed use particularly adaptable to trucks or other machines.

Drive Assembly For Machine

View page
US Patent:
20150252875, Sep 10, 2015
Filed:
May 19, 2015
Appl. No.:
14/715624
Inventors:
- Peoria IL, US
Christopher P. Braet - Washington IL, US
Trent Thum - Wexford PA, US
Brandon Mann - Monticello IL, US
Vanyo N. Kirov - Milwaukee WI, US
Timothy S. Stoakes - Naperville IL, US
Brian C. Boguski - Edwards IL, US
Daniel J. Reed - Brimfield IL, US
Timothy F. Nusz - Wyoming IL, US
Assignee:
Caterpillar Inc. - Peoria IL
International Classification:
F16H 1/28
F16H 57/12
Abstract:
A final drive assembly for a machine includes an input shaft drivably coupled to a prime mover. The input shaft is coupled to and drives a first stage gear assembly. The first stage gear assembly further drives a second stage gear assembly. The first and second stage gear assemblies drive a ring gear which is coupled to a wheel of the machine. The first and second stage gear assemblies are disposed between a first bearing assembly and a second bearing assembly. A spring member preloads the first bearing assembly to limit an axial movement of the first and second stage gear assemblies.

Chip Detector

US Patent:
20140347032, Nov 27, 2014
Filed:
Aug 12, 2014
Appl. No.:
14/457555
Inventors:
- Peoria IL, US
Timothy F. Nusz - Wyoming IL, US
Assignee:
Caterpillar Inc. - Peoria IL
International Classification:
G01V 3/08
US Classification:
324 711
Abstract:
A chip detector includes a plug configured to be coupled to a housing. The plug includes a first magnetic member and a second magnetic member spaced apart from each other so as to define a gap therebetween. Each of the first magnetic member and the second magnetic member is a rare earth magnet. A first electric contact is electrically coupled with the first magnetic member and a second electric contact is electrically coupled with the second magnetic member. A resistor is electrically coupled between the first electric contact and the second electric contact. An energy storage device is configured to provide a voltage difference between the first electric contact and the second electric contact. An indicating member is configured to provide an indication of a flow of current between the first and second electric contacts due to collection of chips in the gap between the first and second magnetic members.
