Filed:
May 10, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/746860
Inventors:
Timothy Dejoris - Mauldin SC, US
Michael J. Dutka - Simpsonville SC, US
Nick Martin - Simpsonville SC, US
Steven M. Schirle - Anderson SC, US
Assignee:
General Electric Company - Schenectady NY
International Classification:
F01D 17/16
F01D 17/00
F01D 19/00
F01D 21/00
US Classification:
415 1, 415119, 415145, 415160, 415162, 60772, 60779, 60782, 60795
Abstract:
A method of starting up a turbine with a compressor have an inlet guide vane, a number of bleed valves, and a number of blades so as to limit the duration in a rotating stall window. The method may include starting rotation of the blades, increasing the speed of the rotation of the blades, closing one or more bleed valves so as to shift the rotating stall window to a higher rotational speed, partially opening the inlet guide vane to a position outside the rotating stall window, and opening the bleed valves while partially closing the inlet guide vane such that the number of blades pass through the rotating stall window.

Assignee:
General Electric Company - Schenectady NY
International Classification:
F01D 5/18
US Classification:
41609600R
Abstract:
An article of manufacture having a nominal profile substantially in accordance with Cartesian coordinate values of X, Y and Z set forth in a table. The table selected from the group of tables consisting of TABLES 1S-16S, 1R-17R, and IGV. Wherein X and Y are distances in inches which, when connected by smooth continuing arcs, define airfoil profile sections at each distance Z in inches. The profile sections at the Z distances being joined smoothly with one another to form a complete airfoil shape.

Asymmetric Compressor Air Extraction Method

View page
US Patent:
20080101922, May 1, 2008
Filed:
Oct 27, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/588389
Inventors:
Steven Mark Schirle - Anderson SC, US
Donald Kasperski - Simpsonville SC, US
Nick Martin - Simpsonville SC, US
Robert M. Zacharias - Fountain Inn SC, US
Timothy E. Dejoris - Mauldin SC, US
Assignee:
GENERAL ELECTRIC COMPANY - Schenectady NY
International Classification:
F01B 25/00
US Classification:
415144
Abstract:
A method to mistune rotating stall aerodynamics by preventing the formation of coherent unsteady loads. Compressor air is extracted in an asymmetric circumferential pattern. The asymmetric bleed pattern disrupts the rotating stall cell rotational pattern, preventing the formation of a coherent aerodynamic excitation.

Systems And Methods For Controlling The Startup Of A Gas Turbine

View page
US Patent:
20120017602, Jan 26, 2012
Filed:
Jul 22, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/841726
Inventors:
Brian Patrick Hansen - Mauldin SC, US
Christopher Edward LaMaster - Simpsonville SC, US
Timothy Edward DeJoris - Mauldin SC, US
David August Snider - Simpsonville SC, US
Assignee:
GENERAL ELECTRIC COMPANY - Schenectady NY
International Classification:
F02C 7/26
US Classification:
60778, 60790
Abstract:
Systems and methods for controlling the startup of a gas turbine are described. A gas discharge component may be configured to discharge gas from a compressor component associated with the gas turbine. A fuel control component may be configured to control a fuel flow provided to a combustor component associated with the gas turbine. A drive component may be configured to supply a rotational force to a shaft associated with the gas turbine. At least one control device may be configured to (i) direct the gas discharge component to discharge gas from the compressor component, (ii) direct the fuel control component to adjust the fuel flow, and (iii) direct the drive component to rotate the shaft.
