Bearing Retention Assembly Having Cam Chamfered Bearing Race Ring

View page
US Patent:
6666583, Dec 23, 2003
Filed:
Dec 4, 2001
Appl. No.:
10/005111
Inventors:
Thomas John Nieman - Livonia MI
Vinh Hiep Luong - Westland MI
Robert John Mohrmann - Pinckney MI
Assignee:
Visteon Global Technologies, Inc. - Dearborn MI
International Classification:
F16C 4304
US Classification:
384537, 384585
Abstract:
In one aspect of the invention, a bearing retention assembly is provided. The assembly includes a bearing set having an annular outer race ring. The outer race ring has a plurality of circumferentially spaced cam chamfers on at least one outer circular edge. The assembly also includes a bearing housing for capturing the bearing set. The bearing housing includes at least one integral securing member for interfering with and engaging at least one cam chamfer for axially and rotatably securing the outer race ring relative to the housing.

Compressor Ring Attachment

View page
US Patent:
60957794, Aug 1, 2000
Filed:
Dec 11, 1998
Appl. No.:
9/209846
Inventors:
Thomas John Nieman - Livonia MI
Vinh Hiep Luong - Westland MI
Eric William Scarlett - South Lyon MI
Assignee:
Ford Motor Company - Dearborn MI
International Classification:
F01C 102
US Classification:
418 553
Abstract:
A scroll compressor includes a compressor housing and an orbiting scroll member, and includes an annular plate between the housing and orbiting scroll member. The plate has an axial aperture provided therethrough, the plate abuts one of the housing and orbiting scroll member. A pin projects through the aperture of the plate and is engaged with the member abutting the plate. A projection is provided on the ring, housing or orbiting scroll member for preventing axial displacement of the pin relative to the plate axially away from the abutting member.

Orbital Motion Bearing

US Patent:
63154609, Nov 13, 2001
Filed:
Dec 29, 1999
Appl. No.:
9/474437
Inventors:
Thomas J. Nieman - Livonia MI
Vinh Hiep Luong - Westland MI
Julian R. Soell - Ann Arbor MI
Assignee:
Visteon Global Technologies, Inc. - Dearborn MI
International Classification:
F16C 3358
F16C 1910
US Classification:
384615
Abstract:
A scroll compressor (10) includes a housing (11) with a stationary scroll member (13) mounted therein and a swivel scroll member (12) positioned in the housing and cooperating with the stationary scroll member to form a compression chamber (16). A thrust bearing has a first bearing ring (40) for attachment to the housing (11) and having a plurality of circular bearing races (42,54), a second bearing ring (45) for attachment to the swivel scroll member (12) and having a plurality of circular bearing races (47,55), and a plurality of balls (56) retained between the rings in associated pairs of the races. The races can have rounded tip (50,51), pointed tip (57,59,60,61,62), plateau (52,53) or flat center (54,55) portions. The first bearing ring (40) can have a thickness (C) different than a thickness (D) of the second earing ring.

System And Method For Automated Assembly Of Components

US Patent:
20210309466, Oct 7, 2021
Filed:
Feb 9, 2021
Appl. No.:
17/171688
Inventors:
- Sterling Heights MI, US
Thomas William French - Petersburg MI, US
Aaron K. Kinsella - Sterling Heights MI, US
Thomas Jon Nieman - Shelby Township MI, US
Scott McIsaac - Waterford MI, US
Craig Richard Nilson - Macomb MI, US
Kenneth Michael Boulan - Sterling Heights MI, US
Jason Edmunn Messner - Allenton MI, US
International Classification:
B65G 47/91
B62D 65/06
Abstract:
A system for automatically handling components to be assembled onto a product on an assembly line includes a carriage that is movable to and between a first, retracted position spaced from the assembly line, and a second position displaced from the retracted position in a direction toward the assembly line. A manipulator on the carriage supports a component mounting tool configured to receive and support at least one component for assembly to the product. The manipulator may be arranged in a first orientation when the carriage is in the first position, and may be pivoted to a second orientation when the carriage is in the second position, such that a component on the component mounting tool is supported in a pose for processing when the carriage is in the first position, and is supported in a pose for joining to the product when the carriage is in the second position.
