US Patent:
7657135, Feb 2, 2010
Filed:
Nov 19, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/273736
Inventors:
John A. Borgos - Shoreview MN, US
Thomas A. Borgos - Lino Lakes MN, US
Troy Pongratz - Minneapolis MN, US
International Classification:
G02B 6/00
G01J 1/56
A61B 5/02
US Classification:
385 12, 385 13, 385 1, 385 88, 25022711, 25022714, 25023119, 600500, 600485, 600481
Abstract:
An optical motion sensing device included a sensor frame defining an opening, a sensor pad disposed in the opening, an optical sensing system adapted to detect an amount of movement of the sensor pad in the sensor frame, and an output unit. The optical sensing system includes an optical waveguide, an optical source device, and an optical detector. The optical waveguide is positioned within the sensor frame such that the movement of the sensor pad results in the flexing or compressing of the optical waveguide. The optical source device supplies optical energy to the optical waveguide. The optical detector detects an amount of optical energy exiting the optical waveguide. The output unit is configured to receive a signal indicative of the amount of optical energy exiting the optical waveguide and to generate a measure of the amount of movement of the sensor pad from the received signal.

US Patent:
7822299, Oct 26, 2010
Filed:
Nov 21, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/944092
Inventors:
John A. Borgos - Shoreview MN, US
Thomas A. Borgos - Lino Lakes MN, US
Troy Pongratz - Minneapolis MN, US
Assignee:
Tarilian Laser Technologies, Limited - Barnet
International Classification:
G02B 6/00
A61B 5/02
US Classification:
385 12, 385 1, 385 13, 385 88, 600301
Abstract:
A vital sign measurement device includes a sensor fixation device, a sensor frame held by the sensor fixation device, an optical sensing system held by the sensor frame, and an output unit. The sensor fixation device is adapted to be placed against an anatomical location of a subject, within which is an artery. The optical sensing system includes an optical waveguide, an optical source device to supply optical energy to the optical waveguide, and an optical detector to detect an amount of optical energy exiting the optical waveguide. The optical sensing system is adapted to sense an arterial pulse from the compression or flexing of at least a portion of the optical waveguide resulting in reduction of the amount of light exiting the optical waveguide. The output unit is configured to receive a signal indicative of the amount of light exiting the optical waveguide and to generate a measure of the vital sign based at least in part on the received signal.
