Grab Handle Bracket/Airbag Igniter Retainer

View page
US Patent:
6364343, Apr 2, 2002
Filed:
Jul 21, 2000
Appl. No.:
09/620258
Inventors:
Gary M Slota - Macomb Township MI
Gerald F Burke - Livonia MI
Thomas C Booth - Roseville MI
Dennis F Stedman - Ortonville MI
Assignee:
DaimlerChrysler Corporation - Auburn Hills MI
International Classification:
B60R 2116
US Classification:
2807282, 2807302
Abstract:
A bracket is provided for assembling an airbag unit and interior vehicle components into a vehicle. The bracket efficiently utilizes the limited interior vehicle space to package all necessary components. To achieve this end, the bracket attaches to a frame member. Within the bracket is a cavity for securely holding an airbag igniter unit. The airbag igniter unit is attached, via a hose, to an airbag. The airbag is partially fit into a recess formed in the bracket. The bracket also maintains a mounting face, to which an interior grab handle can be secured. The bracket allows for the existence of an airbag subassembly which includes, the bracket, an airbag operatively attached to an airbag igniter unit, and an interior grab handle. Such a subassembly will improve overall vehicle assembly efficiency by reducing the amount of steps required in assembly, thus making the assembly process easier.

Abstract:
A drive assembly for a vehicle door is provided. The drive assembly includes a motor having a driving member. The drive assembly further includes a housing having a shaft rotatably received therein. The drive assembly further includes an input member being rotatably received upon the shaft. The input member is operatively associated with the driving member. The drive assembly further includes a rotor fixedly secured to the shaft. The drive assembly further includes first and second Hall effect sensor modules mounted to the housing in a facing spaced relationship with respect to the plurality of teeth of the rotor that generate first and second signals, respectively. The first and second signals have a quadrature relationship with respect to one another and indicate a rotational direction of the rotor when the plurality of teeth are rotating past the first and second Hall effect sensor modules.

Strut Position Sensor Including A Magnet Mounted On An Idler Gear Contained In A Stator Portion, Which Is Movable Relative To A Rotor Portion Connected To The Strut, And A Galvanomagnetic Sensor In The Stator Portion For Detecting Angular Position Of The Strut

View page
US Patent:
8008910, Aug 30, 2011
Filed:
Feb 19, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/070493
Inventors:
Thomas Lawson Booth - Birmingham MI, US
Howard Warren Kuhlman - Rochester Hills MI, US
Assignee:
Strattec Power Access LLC - Troy MI
International Classification:
G01B 7/30
US Classification:
3242072, 32420725
Abstract:
A power actuator system for a movable vehicle panel such as a lift gate assembly includes a position sensor that detects the pivotal movement of a strut mechanism of the power lift gate assembly relative to the host vehicle. A rotary sensor is coupled directly to an end component of the strut mechanism and provides signals that indicate the total amount of pivotal or rotary movement of the strut mechanism and the lift gate during the opening and closing of the lift gate. The signals provide information to determine the absolute position of the strut and the lift gate for processing in the vehicle's electronic control unit.

Vehicle Power Window Control

View page
US Patent:
46839755, Aug 4, 1987
Filed:
Sep 30, 1986
Appl. No.:
6/913531
Inventors:
Thomas L. Booth - Birmingham MI
Edgar H. Schlaps - Washington MI
Ronald J. Wilde - St. Clair Shores MI
Assignee:
General Motors Corporation - Detroit MI
International Classification:
B60R 2504
F05B 4700
H02P 122
US Classification:
180289
Abstract:
A power window control for a motor vehicle provides express or one-touch movement in response to short activations of a control element and traditional power window movement during activation of the control element for longer periods. The control provides for automatic window closing with activation of a power door lock element, as long as the ignition is off unless the ignition key is in the ignition switch and the driver's door is open. This allows single touch vehicle locking but helps prevents the operator from locking himself out of the vehicle with the key still inside. Window movement, once initiated in the open or close direction, is stopped in response to motor stall when the open or closed limit is reached. It is also stopped in the closing direction and reversed to the opening direction in response to a special impediment sensor comprising a flexible tube with an inner reflective surface adjacent the window closing path which directs light from an oscillator controlled light sending element to a light sensing circuit electronically synchronized with the sending element, when an impediment is pushed by the closing window into the tube to collapse it and block the light communication. Circuitry is disclosed for accomplishing the aforementioned features.

Flexible Tube Optical Intrusion Detector

View page
US Patent:
48291749, May 9, 1989
Filed:
Jan 25, 1988
Appl. No.:
7/148186
Inventors:
Thomas L. Booth - Birmingham MI
Edgar H. Schlaps - Washington MI
Assignee:
General Motors Corporation - Detroit MI
International Classification:
G01V 904
US Classification:
250221
Abstract:
A hollow flexible vinyl or other plastic tube having a shiny inner wall is disposed along a boundary where intrusion detection is desired. A beam of infrared radiation from an LED at one end of the tube is passed through the tube by reflections from the wall to a detector at the other end. The radiation is conducted along curved paths as well as straight paths. An object intruding into the protected space with sufficient force to deform the tube wall attenuates the radiation. A detection circuit senses the attenuation and produces an intrusion signal. The detection circuit includes logic which detects a failure in the radiation source or a light leak in the tube.

Snap-In Attachment Clip For Plastic Panel

View page
US Patent:
56672713, Sep 16, 1997
Filed:
Mar 15, 1995
Appl. No.:
8/404848
Inventors:
Thomas C. Booth - Roseville MI
Assignee:
Chrysler Corporation - Auburn Hills MI
International Classification:
B62D 2508
US Classification:
296192
Abstract:
A U-shaped edge attachment clip adapted for securing each outboard end of a plastic panel to an associated vehicle body side panel downwardly offset horizontally disposed flange. Each flange free edge includes a pair of longitudinally spaced cutouts. Each attachment clip, of resilient sheet material, has an elongate, generally U-shaped bifurcated configuration defining an upper contoured leg and a lower planar leg having their proximate ends joined by a bight wall. The upper leg is formed with inner and outer longitudinally spaced pairs of spring tangs matching lower leg underling end tab portions and a center elongated tab portion adapted to grip the flange. The longitudinally spaced upper tangs and lower tab portions define a pair of matching clip upper and lower leg end notches which, when aligned with associated flange cutouts, are adapted to receive panel integral snap-in locking prongs. An integral leaf spring on the clip is adapted to resiliently biases a depending end wall of the plastic panel upwardly upon engagement of the prongs, thereby positioning the plastic panel exterior surface in flush relation with adjacent an portion of the body panel. The clips and their associated panel cutouts allow the plastic panel freedom to thermally expand outboard.
