NANOFORMULATION FOR THE TREATMENT OF MOLD
Research into the affects of nanoformulated gel products to determine their efficacy as a treatment for inhibition of the growth of a constituent of bathroom mold, Aspergillus niger. -Presented results at 2010 FLAVS Symposium -Developed experiments -Gathered data -Consulted with an expert on Aspergillus niger -Created presentations - Power Point and posters -Maintained laboratory and Lab equipment - maintenance care of autoclave
DEVELOPMENT OF NANOPARTICLE FORMULATION FOR THE PREVENTION OF CITRUS CANKER DISEASE
Florida Citrus Production Research Advisory Council
Proposed research into the affects of nanoformulated gel products to determine their efficacy as a treatment for inhibition of citrus canker disease, Xanthomonas axonopodis. As a concerned native of Florida, I first became aware of this disease in the mid-1980s. I continued my education in the sciences on a shoe-string budget having taken an interest in chemistry in an Introduction to Chemistry while studying at Eastern New Mexico University in 1985. Until I learned about nanotechnology, I did not know where to find an answer. In 2006, having finally been able to take an Organic Chemistry course with Mr. Paul Mayer at Pasco-Hernando Community College, I learned about nano materials. This new knowledge lead me to take nanobiotechnology with Dr. Santra. My genuine interest compelled him to let me work with his group at NSTC where I first told him of the perils of this disease to citrus populations. We submitted our proposal and received a grant for the initial development of the product. And, we were able to formulate the gel and deliver it to the UF research facility where it has been in field trials until this year. Now awaiting the results. It is also expected that this product will work against Huanglongbing (HLB; citrus greening) as well as a few other applications. -Developed experiments -Formulated nanotechnology based products -Gathered data -Consulted with experts in citrus research -Created presentations - Power Point and posters -Maintained laboratory and Lab equipment Yes, I will write a book:)
