Electrical Connector Assembly Having A Cable Retention Element

View page
US Patent:
20100311269, Dec 9, 2010
Filed:
Jun 3, 2009
Appl. No.:
12/477645
Inventors:
STEVE SATTAZAHN - LEBANON PA, US
STEPHEN APA - LEWISBERRY PA, US
DAVID COURS - DALTON PA, US
Assignee:
TYCO ELECTRONICS CORPORATION - Berwyn PA
International Classification:
H01R 13/58
US Classification:
439471
Abstract:
An electrical connector assembly includes a housing, a cable and a cable retention element. The housing holds contacts that are configured to be electrically joined with a peripheral device. The housing includes a cable port that is disposed at an outer surface of the housing. The cable extends from the cable port of the housing along a cable axis. The cable is electrically coupled with the contacts in the housing. The cable retention element is attached to the cable and is at least partially disposed within the housing. The cable retention element includes a body that is joined with the cable and a wing protruding from the body in a direction oriented at an angle with respect to the cable axis. The wing engages the housing to prevent the cable from being removed from the housing.

Junction Box

US Patent:
20130048334, Feb 28, 2013
Filed:
Aug 29, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/219763
Inventors:
Stephen Daniel GHERARDINI - Harrisburg PA, US
Mark Edwin LAUERMANN - Harrisburg PA, US
Steve Douglas SATTAZAHN - Lebanon PA, US
Assignee:
TYCO ELECTRONICS CORPORATION - Berwyn PA
International Classification:
H01R 13/46
US Classification:
174 59
Abstract:
A junction box for electrically connecting a photovoltaic (PV) module to a power distribution system having a mating conductor. The junction box includes a housing configured to be mounted on the PV module, the housing comprising a mating interface and an opening formed in the housing for engaging foil of the PV module. The housing is configured to mate with a mating conductor of the power distribution system at the mating interface. Engagement features positioned in the housing to secure a component form an electrical connection between foil of the PV module and the mating conductor.

Connector With Coupling Device For Stabilized Latching

View page
US Patent:
20180233855, Aug 16, 2018
Filed:
Feb 14, 2017
Appl. No.:
15/431953
Inventors:
- Berwyn PA, US
Tracy Lee Smith - Harrisburg PA, US
Steve Douglas Sattazahn - Lebanon PA, US
International Classification:
H01R 13/627
H01R 13/639
H01R 13/17
Abstract:
An electrical connector includes a housing holding electrical conductors and a coupling device mounted to the housing for coupling the electrical connector to a mating connector. The coupling device includes an elongated stem and first and second latch arms that are located at least proximate to ends of the stem. The latch arms extend from the stem and have hook tips at distal ends thereof. The coupling device further includes a return spring beam extending from the stem and located between the latch arms. The coupling device pivots between a locking position and a depressed position. The hook tips of the latch arms protrude beyond a mating interface surface of the housing a greater extent when in the locking position than when in the depressed position to latch onto the mating connector. The return spring beam engages the housing to bias the coupling device to the locking position.

Connector Sub-Assembly And Electrical Connector Having Signal And Ground Conductors

View page
US Patent:
20170310035, Oct 26, 2017
Filed:
Apr 21, 2016
Appl. No.:
15/134991
Inventors:
- Berwyn PA, US
Brandon Michael Matthews - McAlisterville PA, US
Steve Douglas Sattazahn - Lebanon PA, US
International Classification:
H01R 13/405
H01R 43/24
H01R 13/6471
Abstract:
Connector sub-assembly includes a plurality of signal conductors. The connector sub-assembly also includes a ground frame having ground conductors and a ground bus that interconnects the ground conductors. The ground bus has opposite first and second sides. The connector sub-assembly also includes a dielectric carrier that surrounds the ground bus and intermediate segments of the signal conductors. Mating segments of the signal conductors project from the dielectric carrier and are configured to engage corresponding contacts of a mating connector. The signal conductors include first conductors and second conductors, and the ground conductors are interleaved between adjacent first and second conductors. The intermediate segments of the first conductors extend adjacent to the first side of the ground bus. The intermediate segments of the second conductors extend adjacent to the second side of the ground bus.

Receptacle Connector With Ground Bus

View page
US Patent:
20160211629, Jul 21, 2016
Filed:
Jan 20, 2015
Appl. No.:
14/600542
Inventors:
- Berwyn PA, US
Matthew Ryan Schmitt - Middletown PA, US
Bruce Allen Champion - Camp Hill PA, US
Brandon Michael Matthews - McAlisterville PA, US
Steve Douglas Sattazahn - Lebanon PA, US
International Classification:
H01R 24/60
H01R 12/70
Abstract:
A receptacle connector includes a housing having a slot configured to receive a mating connector therein. Signal contacts are held by the housing. The signal contacts include signal mating segments and signal mounting segments. The signal mating segments include signal mating interfaces that are exposed within the slot for engagement with the mating connector. Ground contacts are held by the housing. The ground contacts include ground mating segments and ground mounting segments. The ground mating segments include ground mating interfaces that are exposed within the slot for engagement with the mating connector. A ground bus electrically commons the ground contacts with each other. The ground contacts and the ground bus are integrally fabricated as a single, unitary, continuous structure.

Power Connector Having Opposing Contact Springs

View page
US Patent:
20140349529, Nov 27, 2014
Filed:
May 21, 2013
Appl. No.:
13/898878
Inventors:
- Berwyn PA, US
Evan Charles Wickes - Harrisburg PA, US
James Charles Shiffler - Hummelstown PA, US
Steve Douglas Sattazahn - Lebanon PA, US
Assignee:
Tyco Electronics Corporation - Berwyn PA
International Classification:
H01R 4/48
US Classification:
439834
Abstract:
Power connector including a pair of discrete contact springs configured to electrically engage a conductive component. Each of the contact springs includes a contact body having opposite inner and outer side surfaces and a contact edge that extends between the inner and outer side surfaces. The contact body is shaped to form a spring base and a mating portion. The spring bases of the contact springs are joined by a locking feature. The locking feature includes a localized portion of at least one of the spring bases. The localized portion frictionally engages the other spring base to interlock the spring bases. Each of the mating portions extends from the corresponding spring base. The mating portions are separated by a receiving space and are configured to engage the conductive component when the conductive component is inserted into the receiving space.
