Video Camera With Interchangable Optical Sensors

View page
US Patent:
20090278929, Nov 12, 2009
Filed:
May 6, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/151381
Inventors:
Nicholas J. Lagadinos - Billerica MA, US
Cheryl A. Casper - North Chemlsford MA, US
Stephen V. McKaughan - Arlington MA, US
Assignee:
FLIR SYSTEMS INC - North Billerica MA
International Classification:
H04N 7/18
H04N 5/225
US Classification:
348143, 3482171, 348374, 348E07085, 348E0509
Abstract:
A video camera for remote operation or surveillance has a lens system supported on a fixed base plate and a pair of image sensors mounted onto a movable plate A pair of balls slides are attached to the fixed base plate and the movable plate to provide linear movement of the movable plate along a linear motion axis An actuator is disposed between the fixed base plate and the movable plate to move the movable plate and each of the image sensors along the linear motion axis to dispose either the first image sensor or the second image sensor in and imagining position where the lens system forms a scene image onto its active surface. In a preferred embodiment, the first image sensor is an Electron Multiplication CCD array suitable for night time imaging and the second sensor is a color CCD array suitable for day light imaging. The invention allows for multiple resolutions, multiple fields of view, multiple spectral bands or all three capabilities using a single lens system without the efficiency losses in photon gathering and other shortcomings of other techniques commonly in use today.

Video Web Inspection System Employing Filtering And Thresholding To Determine Surface Anomalies

View page
US Patent:
53011295, Apr 5, 1994
Filed:
Apr 29, 1992
Appl. No.:
7/875672
Inventors:
Stephen V. McKaughan - Arlington MA
Gary F. Nevers - Lynn MA
Joseph W. Landry - Saugus MA
John P. Fallon - Andover MA
Paul R. Adomaitis - Trafford PA
Assignee:
Aluminum Company of America - Pittsburgh PA
International Classification:
G06F 1100
US Classification:
364552
Abstract:
Method and apparatus for inspecting the surface of a moving web of homogeneous material for anomalies, the apparatus including a light source for illuminating the web surface and a light sensitive detector for receiving data from the web surface. The data is representative of the light reflected from the surface, as the light is affected by surface anomalies and background information. Computational means are provided for receiving output data from the detector in response to the data the detector receives from the web surface, and for processing the output data in a manner that determines the presence of surface anomalies. The computation means includes a plurality of filters for transforming the surface data in a manner that effects substantial elimination of the background information, and means for establishing threshold levels for background information. In addition, automatic means is provided for modifying the threshold levels in response to changes in the reflectance, frequency, or contrast of background information received by the detector and forwarded to the computation means.

Multiple-Sensor Imaging System

US Patent:
20150350569, Dec 3, 2015
Filed:
Jun 1, 2015
Appl. No.:
14/727790
Inventors:
- Wilsonville OR, US
Stephen V. McKaughan - The Villages FL, US
Nick Lagadinos - Billerica MA, US
International Classification:
H04N 5/33
H04N 5/225
Abstract:
An imaging system may include input optics and a plurality of optical sensors. A positionable reflector may be disposed between the input optics and the optical sensors, and may be positionable to redirect incident radiation from an input optical axis toward any one of the optical sensors. The reflector may comprise a rotatable prism.
