US Patent:
20100154171, Jun 24, 2010
Filed:
Dec 18, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/338239
Inventors:
Michael J Lombardi - Mundelein IL, US
Roger W. Harmon - Crystal Lake IL, US
Srikanth Thiruppukuzhi - Vernon Hills IL, US
Assignee:
Motorola Inc. - Schaumburg IL
International Classification:
E05D 11/08
US Classification:
16341, 16337
Abstract:
A mobile phone or other electronic device is provided with an improved friction hinge with a radial range of motion greater than 180 degrees and with detents at both ends of travel. The friction hinge can include an asymmetrical cam in conjunction with a single tab on a follower. Advantageously, the electronic device with the improved friction hinge can allows a full 360 degree range of motion with any number of detents at any radial position.

H05K 9/00
H05K 1/14
H01M 50/20
H05K 7/20
H05K 1/02
Abstract:
An electronic device having a display assembly is disclosed. Several layers may combine to form the display assembly. For example, the display assembly may include a touch sensitive layer (or touch detection layer), a display layer that present visual information, and a force sensitive layer (or force detection layer). The display layer may include a bend or curve that allows a portion of the display layer to bend around the force sensitive layer. Also, the connectors (that provide electrical and mechanical connections) may be positioned at different locations of the layers. For example, the display layer may include a connector on a first edge region, and the force sensitive layer may include a connector on a second edge region that is perpendicular, or at least substantially perpendicular, to the first edge region. By positioning the connectors on perpendicular edge regions, the display assembly may reduce its footprint.

Abstract:
This application relates to an enclosure for a portable electronic device. The enclosure includes a protruding trim structure having walls that define a cavity, where the protruding trim structure is capable of carrying an electronic component within the cavity. The enclosure further includes a support plate that is coupled to the enclosure and the protruding trim structure, and a brace structure that secures and supports the protruding trim structure such that when the protruding trim structure is exposed to an external load during a drop event, the protruding trim structure is capable of redirecting an amount of the load away from the protruding trim structure and the electronic component.

Abstract:
An assembly () includes a substrate () and a heat emissive electrical component () disposed on the substrate. A shield () is disposed on the substrate, thereby enclosing the heat emissive electrical component. A display assembly () is disposed above the shield. A compressible pad () is disposed between the shield and the display assembly. The compressible pad defines an aperture () above the heat emissive electrical component. The aperture can have dimensions that are a function of a shield area and a heat emissive electrical component area.
