H04W 4/22
H04W 48/18
H04W 60/00
Abstract:
Apparatuses, systems, and methods for multi-SIM user equipment (UE) devices to perform emergency calling. A UE may receive an indication to initiate an emergency call. The UE may select a cell on which to initiate the emergency call. If a serving cell of a first SIM of the UE is not available for the emergency call, the UE may utilize information from a second SIM of the UE as part of selecting the cell on which to initiate the emergency call. The information from the second SIM may include an indication of a serving cell of the second SIM. Alternatively or in addition, the information from the second SIM may include an indication of one or more neighboring cells of the second SIM. The emergency call may be initiated via the selected cell using the first SIM.

Abstract:
Apparatuses, systems, and methods for multi-SIM user equipment (UE) devices to search for service. A UE may determine that a first SIM of the UE is out-of-service. The UE may scan for service for the first SIM of the UE using a second SIM of the UE. An indication may be provided to the first SIM if service (or service information) is found for the first SIM. If the second SIM is also out-of-service, the UE may scan for service for the first SIM and the second SIM jointly.

Apparatus, System, And Method For Toggling Carrier Aggregation

View page
US Patent:
20160262177, Sep 8, 2016
Filed:
Sep 14, 2015
Appl. No.:
14/853404
Inventors:
- CUPERTINO CA, US
Sai Sravan Bharadwaj KARRI - Cupertino CA, US
Someet LAL - Cupertino CA, US
Navid DAMJI - Cupertino CA, US
International Classification:
H04W 72/14
H04W 76/02
H04W 52/02
H04L 5/00
Abstract:
An apparatus, system, and method optimize a manner in which carrier aggregation (CA) is used. The apparatus comprises a transceiver and processor. The transceiver is used to establish a connection with a network including first and second network components used for a CA functionality. The processor implicitly deactivates the SCell while the CA functionality is enabled by the network by determining that the CA functionality is enabled by the network, determining that the SCell is one of out-of-service (OoS) and effectively OoS when the second network component is reachable by the apparatus and a connection parameter with the second network component is below a predetermined threshold, transmitting a channel quality indicator (CQI) value of zero for the SCell to the first network component to implicitly deactivate the SCell, and utilizing a low power consumption state where monitoring of the SCell is terminated.

One embodiment relates to a method including, at a user equipment (“UE”), establishing a connection to a first wireless network in accordance with a first wireless communication protocol, wherein the first wireless communication protocol is used for voice communications and data communications between the UE and the first wireless network, receiving a user request to disable the voice communications with the first wireless network, registering for voice communications with a second wireless network in accordance with a second wireless communication protocol, and maintaining the connection to the first wireless network to continue data communications between the UE and the first wireless network, wherein the UE simultaneously operates in the first wireless communication protocol and the second wireless communication protocol.

Communication During Thermal Mitigation

View page
US Patent:
20140194134, Jul 10, 2014
Filed:
Jan 10, 2013
Appl. No.:
13/738096
Inventors:
- Cupertino CA, US
Rajesh Ambati - Santa Clara CA, US
Syed A. Rahim - San Jose CA, US
Someet K. Lal - Santa Clara CA, US
Assignee:
APPLE INC. - Cupertino CA
International Classification:
H04W 52/36
US Classification:
4554521
Abstract:
In order to facilitate communication in a wireless network, an accessibility issue in the wireless network may be detected. For example, if an electronic device is near the boundary between two adjacent cells in the cellular-telephone network, the signal power of signals from a current cell or connection may decrease. Concurrently, the maximum transmit power of the electronic device may be constrained by a thermal limit of the electronic device. When this occurs, the connection may be lost unless remedial action is taken. Therefore, in response to this condition, the electronic device may temporarily increase the maximum transmit power to allow the electronic device to communicate with the cellular-telephone network so that the connection may be transitioned to another cell or connection. In this way, the communication technique may restore the communication performance and avoid a dropped call, which will improve the user experience and customer satisfaction.
