Cylindrical Pump Housing With A Fan Guard Mounted On Each End Of The Housing With Snap Tabs Engaging Housing Recesses

View page
US Patent:
6692240, Feb 17, 2004
Filed:
May 21, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/130804
Inventors:
Todd W. Leonhard - Sheboygan WI
Shawn Leu - Newton WI
Assignee:
Thomas Industries Inc. - Sheboygan WI
International Classification:
F04B 3906
US Classification:
417372, 417415, 4174239, 310 62, 310 63, 403329
Abstract:
A pump housing ( ) has a fan guard ( ) secured to the end of the housing by four crescent-shaped tabs ( ) fitting into four crescent-shaped cast-in recesses ( ) of the housing ( ) and ears ( ) of the tabs ( ) fitting into cast-in holes ( ) in the housing ( ). The ears ( ) and boles ( ) on opposite sides of the housing ( ) are aligned along a common axis ( ). The ears ( ) are tapered at their leading ends ( ) and squared off at their trailing ends ( ), and the guard ( ) has a radial projection ( ) that fits into an opening in the housing ( ).

Piston Mounting And Balancing System

View page
US Patent:
6832900, Dec 21, 2004
Filed:
Jan 8, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/338950
Inventors:
Shawn A. Leu - Newton WI
Assignee:
Thomas Industries Inc. - Sheboygan WI
International Classification:
F04B 1700
US Classification:
417419, 417415, 417521, 417523, 92152, 92257
Abstract:
A compact 180Â opposed piston pump/compressor minimizes axial spacing between its pistons on the drive shaft and thereby reduces the shaking couple and noise from reciprocation. Each piston has its own eccentric element press-fit into the connecting rods so as not to occupy space between the pistons. The shaking couple can be further reduced for pistons of different masses by selecting the mass of the cup retainers to compensate for the difference in overall piston masses. The pump also includes an improved cylinder sealing arrangement having a circumferential groove in an angled surface at the end of the cylinder. The pump also has a special cover and seal for closing the open neck of the pump crankcase and an improved multi-lobed valve stop. The pump further uses tubular transfer members for transferring intake and/or exhaust air into the crankcase and/or between valve heads.
