US Patent:
6403736, Jun 11, 2002
Filed:
Jun 14, 2000
Appl. No.:
09/593878
Inventors:
Shaotian Wang - Mason OH
Assignee:
Equistar Chemicals, LP - Houston TX
International Classification:
C08F 444
US Classification:
526160, 526134, 526943, 526941, 526348, 502104, 502114
Abstract:
An ethylene polymerization process is disclosed. The process uses a single-site catalyst that contains a boraaryl ligand. The catalyst is premixed with alkyl aluminum to reduce the induction time of the catalyst. In addition, premixing the catalyst with triethyl aluminum significantly enhances the bulk density of polyethylene.

Olefin Polymerization Process Using Fatty Amine Additives And Boron-Modified Supported Catalyst

US Patent:
6476165, Nov 5, 2002
Filed:
Mar 8, 2000
Appl. No.:
09/521166
Inventors:
Shaotian Wang - Mason OH
Assignee:
Equistar Chemicals, LP - Houston TX
International Classification:
C08F 402
US Classification:
526129, 526 74, 5261249, 526134, 526141, 526147, 526161, 526172, 526156, 526904
Abstract:
An olefin polymerization process is described. The process comprises polymerizing an olefin in the presence of a support, a single-site catalyst, an optional activator, and a fatty amine. The support is chemically treated with an organoboron compound. The single-site catalyst contains a polymerization-stable, heteroatomic ligand. The fatty amine is added directly to the reactor. The combination of pre-treating the support with an organoboron compound and the addition of fatty amine to the process unexpectedly increases catalyst activity.

Abstract:
A process for making ethylene copolymers is disclosed. Ethylene copolymerizes with an -olefin in the presence of a catalyst system comprising an activator and a silica-supported, bridged indenoindolyl metal complex having âopen architecture. â The supported complex incorporates comonomers with exceptional efficiency, and the process gives ethylene copolymers having high molecular weights (Mw 100K) and very low densities (0. 910 g/cm ). Open architecture catalysts that include bridging through the indolyl nitrogen of the indenoindolyl framework are also described.

Shaotian Wang - Mason OH
Norma J. Maraschin - Cincinnati OH
Debra L. Beran - Pearland TX
William J. Sartain - West Chester OH
Assignee:
Equistar Chemicals, LP - Houston TX
International Classification:
C08F 406
US Classification:
526161, 526172, 526134, 526904, 526943, 526352, 526129, 502104
Abstract:
A supported olefin polymerization catalyst system and a method of making it are disclosed. The catalyst system comprises: (a) a support having mean particle size less than about 30 microns chemically treated with alumoxane; (b) an organometallic complex comprising a Group 3 to 10 transition or lanthanide metal, M, and at least one indenoindolyl ligand that is -bonded to M; and (c) an activator. Chemical treatment with alumoxane and support mean particle size less than 30 microns are key to making supported indenoindolyl containing catalysts having high activity.
