Method And System For Exporting Flight Data For Long Term Storage

View page
US Patent:
7181478, Feb 20, 2007
Filed:
Aug 11, 2000
Appl. No.:
09/637442
Inventors:
Shannon Lee Korson - Middletown OH, US
Sharon Ann Garls - Hamilton OH, US
Michael Dean Fullington - West Chester OH, US
Scott Allen Goertemiller - Cincinnati OH, US
Assignee:
General Electric Company - Schenectady NY
International Classification:
G06F 17/30
US Classification:
707204, 707201, 707202
Abstract:
The availability of flight data used in the maintenance of aircraft engines is enhanced by exporting data from the database of an engine condition monitoring program to a long term database. The data export is accomplished by first reading a time file to determine the last date and time that data was successfully exported to the destination database. The program database is then searched for data that is new or changed since the last successful export. Any data found in searching the program database is retrieved and exported to the destination database. After a successful export, the date and time of the successful export is updated in the time file.

US Patent:
6628995, Sep 30, 2003
Filed:
Aug 11, 2000
Appl. No.:
09/637441
Inventors:
Shannon Lee Korson - Middletown OH
Bruce Gunter Schings - Loveland OH
Packey Pasquale Velleca - Palm Bay FL
Mary Beth Golding - Melbourne Beach FL
Assignee:
General Electric Company - Schenectady NY
International Classification:
G05B 2102
US Classification:
700 74, 700 39, 700 73, 700 52, 700 53, 700 67, 700 46, 244 321, 244 46, 244904, 434 43, 434 44, 434 45
Abstract:
Aircraft flight data collection is enhanced by changing the data sampling rate as a function of an operational condition of the aircraft, such as its flight phase. An algorithm is used to determine the flight phase. Then, the data is collected at a first sampling rate when the flight phase is one of a first set of flight phases and collected at a second sampling rate when the flight phase is one of a second set of flight phases. The second sampling rate is greater than the first sampling rate to maximize the data storage capacity of the system. Generally, the higher sampling rate is used with transient flight phases such as takeoff and thrust reverse.
