System And Method For Diagnosing A Fault In An Oxygen Sensor Based On Engine Speed

View page
US Patent:
20140033812, Feb 6, 2014
Filed:
Nov 8, 2012
Appl. No.:
13/672231
Inventors:
Thomas J. Majcher - Orchard Lake MI, US
Scott Jeffrey - Hartland MI, US
John W. Siekkinen - Novi MI, US
Assignee:
GM GLOBAL TECHNOLOGY OPERATIONS LLC - Detroit MI
International Classification:
G01M 15/10
US Classification:
7311473
Abstract:
A system according to the principles of the present disclosure includes an error count module and a sensor diagnostic module. The error count module increases an error count when an actual air/fuel ratio is different from a desired air/fuel ratio and selectively adjusts the error count based on an actual engine speed. An oxygen sensor generates a signal indicating the actual air/fuel ratio. The sensor diagnostic module diagnoses a fault in the oxygen sensor when the error count is greater than a first predetermined count.

Systems And Methods For Performing Prognosis Of Fuel Delivery

View page
US Patent:
20170350340, Dec 7, 2017
Filed:
Jun 1, 2016
Appl. No.:
15/169802
Inventors:
- Detroit MI, US
Chaitanya Sankavaram - Sterling Heights MI, US
Ian J. Macewen - White Lake MI, US
Steven Ward Majors - Howell MI, US
Scott R. Jeffrey - Hartland MI, US
Rafat F. Hattar - Royal Oak MI, US
International Classification:
F02D 41/22
F02D 41/14
F01N 3/20
F02D 41/26
F02D 41/38
Abstract:
An engine includes a plurality of combustion cylinders configured to burn a fuel to power the engine, and a plurality of fuel injectors. Each of the fuel injectors is arranged to distribute fuel delivered from a fuel tank to one of the plurality of combustion cylinders. The engine also includes a controller programmed to adjust a fuel trim signal gain based on sensing exhaust flow downstream of the combustion cylinders. The controller is also programmed to monitor a cumulative misfire count for each of the plurality of combustion cylinders. The controller is further programmed to issue a prognosis message identifying a state of health of at least one of the plurality of fuel injectors in response to a fuel trim signal gain exceeding an adjustment threshold and a cumulative misfire count greater than a misfire threshold.

System And Method For Controlling An Engine Based On An Oxygen Storage Capability Of A Catalytic Converter

View page
US Patent:
20150107554, Apr 23, 2015
Filed:
Oct 18, 2013
Appl. No.:
14/056994
Inventors:
- Detroit MI, US
Robert J. Genslak - Macomb MI, US
Scott Jeffrey - Hartland MI, US
Assignee:
GM Global Technology Operations LLC - Detroit MI
International Classification:
F02D 43/00
US Classification:
123350
Abstract:
A system according to the principles of the present disclosure includes a storage capability module and at least one of an engine speed control module and a spark control module. The storage capability module determines a capability of a catalytic converter to store oxygen. The engine speed control module controls a speed of an engine based on the oxygen storage capability of the catalytic converter. The spark control module controls a spark timing of the engine based on the oxygen storage capability of the catalytic converter.
