Knock-Down Bird Feeder With Interlocking Port

View page
US Patent:
7946248, May 24, 2011
Filed:
Dec 29, 2009
Appl. No.:
12/648455
Inventors:
Scott A. Colwell - Dayville CT, US
John Walsh - Norfolk MA, US
Assignee:
Droll Yankees - Danielson CT
International Classification:
A01K 39/01
US Classification:
119 578
Abstract:
An elongated, tubular bird feeder comprising one or more pairs of interlocking feeder ports, where the feeder ports are of identical constructions, such that each feeder port mates with an identical feeder port. Each port defines an external perch and an external shield that is curved to fit the contour of the tube, a neck which fits tightly into an opening in the tube, and a reduced diameter portion that defines an end face, from which projects two interlocking features: a horizontally-oriented blade member; and a vertically-oriented generally sector-shaped member. When two ports are pushed together into diametrically-opposed side openings in the tube, with end faces located proximate one another, the two sector members will be located adjacent one another to define an essentially semi-circular upper region, and the two blades will be located next to one another to define an essentially horizontal blade member.

Removable And Reconfigurable Perch For Bird Feeder

View page
US Patent:
20110100299, May 5, 2011
Filed:
Nov 3, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/938679
Inventors:
Scott A. Colwell - Dayville CT, US
Assignee:
Droll Yankees, Inc. - Danielson CT
International Classification:
A01K 39/00
A01K 39/01
US Classification:
119 522, 119 578
Abstract:
The invention provides a user-configurable perch for a bird feeder. The perch comprises four generally “U”-shaped or “C”-shaped lobes arranged in a generally circular loop, where the loop provides the surface onto which the birds perch. The loop is coupled to a central plate by four support members, which serve to separate the center plate from the loop. The perch is coupled to the bird feeder with a fastener inserted through a hole in the center plate. The perch may be coupled to a bird feeder in one of two configurations. In a first configuration, the loop is positioned below the bottom surface of the bird feeder to accommodate larger birds. In a second configuration, the loop is positioned, above the bottom surface of the bird feeder to discourage larger birds and cater to smaller birds.
