Accessing Sources Of Resources Within Standard Request-Response Protocols

View page
US Patent:
6581099, Jun 17, 2003
Filed:
Jul 26, 1999
Appl. No.:
09/360515
Inventors:
Brian J. Deen - North Bend WA
Saveen V. Reddy - Bellevue WA
Assignee:
Microsoft Corporation - Redmond WA
International Classification:
G06F 1516
US Classification:
709229, 709203, 707 10, 707 14, 707500
Abstract:
Access of sources of resources within standard request-response protocols such as HTTP is disclosed. In one embodiment, a method specifies a request for application against a resource, where the resource has a source and a response. Within a TRANSLATE header within the request, there is either a FALSE flag to indicate that the source is desired, or a TRUE flag to indicate that the response is desired. In one embodiment, the TRUE flag is the default for the TRANSLATE header. The request is output according to a predetermined request protocol such as HTTP, and in one embodiment, also according to a predetermined markup language such as XML.

Context-Sensitive Content Level Semantic Information Propagation System And Method

View page
US Patent:
7490133, Feb 10, 2009
Filed:
Jun 18, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/465384
Inventors:
Roy Leban - Redmond WA, US
Saveen Reddy - Redmond WA, US
Assignee:
Microsoft Corporation - Redmond WA
International Classification:
G06F 15/13
US Classification:
709216, 709203, 709205, 709218, 709219, 707 10, 715751, 725 60
Abstract:
A sharer can share an application object with a viewer over a communication network. An application can register information relating to the application object with a content manager. A listener can read the content manager to display the application objects that are available to be shared with the viewer. Upon selecting from the listener an application object to be shared with the viewer, the sharer can share the application object with the viewer.

Languages For Expressing Security Policies

View page
US Patent:
20060005227, Jan 5, 2006
Filed:
Jul 1, 2004
Appl. No.:
10/882438
Inventors:
Anders Samuelsson - Redmond WA, US
Thomas Fakes - Redmond WA, US
Arindam Chatterjee - Issaquah WA, US
Art Shelest - Sammamish WA, US
Mark Vayman - Redmond WA, US
Rajesh Dadhia - Redmond WA, US
Saveen Reddy - Redmond WA, US
Shirish Koti - Redmond WA, US
Steven Townsend - Seattle WA, US
Assignee:
Microsoft Corporation - Redmond WA
International Classification:
G06F 17/00
US Classification:
726001000
Abstract:
Languages for expressing security policies are provided. The languages comprise rules that specify conditions and actions. The rules may be enforced by a security engine when a security enforcement event occurs. The languages support data separation, dynamic evaluation, and ordered rule scope. By separating data from logic, security engines may only need to be updated with a portion of rules that change. With dynamic evaluation, expressions of rules may be evaluated dynamically, such as by querying a database, when a security engine enforces a rule. With ordered rule scope, when a security enforcement event implicates a number of rules simultaneously, the rules may be enforced in a deterministic and logically organized manner.

Secure Software Deployments

View page
US Patent:
20090007096, Jan 1, 2009
Filed:
Jun 28, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/770536
Inventors:
Anthony S. Chavez - Kenmore WA, US
Saveen V. Reddy - Redmond WA, US
Joel M. Soderberg - Edmonds WA, US
Assignee:
MICROSOFT CORPORATION - Redmond WA
International Classification:
G06F 9/445
US Classification:
717176
Abstract:
Techniques for secure software deployments are described. In one implementation, a software package is published to an installation portion of a networked environment and stored. Similarly, an applicability rule (or policy) associated with the software package is published to the installation portion and stored. During a periodic synchronization between a host device and the installation portion, the applicability rule is communicated, and a determination is made whether the host device is intended to receive the software package based on the applicability rule communicated during the periodic synchronization. If the applicability rule is satisfied, the software package is installed on the host device. In a further implementation, the software package may be installed on the host device via a communication channel that is normally designated for non-routine communications, such as security packet updates and other administrative functions.

Standard Database Queries Within Standard Request-Response Protocols

View page
US Patent:
6356906, Mar 12, 2002
Filed:
Jul 26, 1999
Appl. No.:
09/360508
Inventors:
Lisa M. Lippert - Seattle WA
Joel M. Soderberg - Duvall WA
Saveen V. Reddy - Bellevue WA
Assignee:
Microsoft Corporation - Redmond WA
International Classification:
G06F 1730
US Classification:
707 10, 707513, 345733, 345751
Abstract:
Standard database queries within standard request-response protocols is disclosed. A database query according to a predetermined query language such as SQL is first wrapped according to a predetermined markup language such as XML. The query is then also wrapped according to a predetermined transport protocol such as HTTP. The resulting twice-wrapped database query can then be submitted from a client to a server over a TCP/IP-compliant network, such as the Internet, for example.
