Community Service Award
University of Phoenix Alumnus Association
CRYSTAL LAKE – University of Phoenixhas awarded alumnus Sarah Schrempf with a Community Service Award for her long history of promoting philanthropy and volunteerism in the Crystal Lake community, as well as her work advocating for local mental health services and support. Even as a teenager, Schrempf had a passion for helping and mentoring others. For more than a decade, she has led philanthropy efforts in Crystal Lake, including organizing the first Dole Stroll and other grassroots efforts to save the historic Dole Mansion. Schrempf is also a member of the Lakeside Legacy Foundation Board of Directors, a docent for the Dole Mansion, a member of the Organization Advisory Committee for Downtown Crystal Lake, and active in the Crystal Lake Jaycees. In addition to organizing fundraising events and organizing volunteers for each of those organizations, Schrempf is a member of Community Partners, a coalition of local mental health organizations, which promote advocacy and awareness of mental health services and support. She has received several awards for her volunteer work. “I was privileged to be a stay-at-home mom when my son, Alex, was born, which allowed me to explore my personal passions and go back to school to get my degree, while also being there for my son during his formative years,” Schrempf said in a news release. “My success as a volunteer and fundraiser fueled my desire to go back to school and University of Phoenix offered a program that was flexible enough to allow me to obtain an education without giving up my other commitments.” Schrempf received her bachelor of science in psychology from University of Phoenix in 2011. She was drawn to the quality of the program as well as the online format, and chose University of Phoenix because she knew a move wouldn’t interfere with her education.
