7820332, Oct 26, 2010
Filed:
Sep 27, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/528131
Inventors:
Michael Edward Badding - Campbell NY, US
Sean Matthew Garner - Elmira NY, US
Sandra Lee Hagg - Corning NY, US
Thomas Dale Ketcham - Big Flats NY, US
Jeffrey Allen Miller - Elmira NY, US
Dell Joseph St Julien - Watkins Glen NY, US
Assignee:
Corning Incorporated - Corning NY
International Classification:
H01M 8/12
US Classification:
429400
Abstract:
An electrolyte sheet comprising two major surfaces, the electrolyte sheet including regions of differing compositions, so that (i) at least one of these regions has at least 1. 5 times higher ionic conductivity than at least one other region; (ii) wherein the at least one other region has 20% more tetragonal phase zirconia per volume than the least one region with higher ionic conductivity; and (iii) when viewed in cross-section taken through said major surfaces at least one of the regions exhibits a non-uniform thickness.

Method Of Making Activated Carbon And Graphite Structures

View page
US Patent:
52156907, Jun 1, 1993
Filed:
Dec 24, 1990
Appl. No.:
7/632922
Inventors:
Carlo M. Golino - Evergreen CO
Sandra L. Hagg - Corning NY
Irwin M. Lachman - Corning NY
Lawrence A. Nordlie - Corning NY
Assignee:
Corning Incorporated - Corning NY
International Classification:
B29C 6720
C01B 3102
C01B 3104
US Classification:
264 296
Abstract:
A method of forming an activated carbon or graphite structure is provided by (1) forming, such as extrusion, of a plasticized mixture of: binder selected from cellulose ether and derivative thereof, starch, and mixture thereof; furfuryl alcohol and/or polyfurfuryl alcohol; and carbon, graphite, or a carbon-containing material; and (2) subjecting the formed mixture to a carbon-forming pyrolysis step. The use of furfuryl alcohol allows extrusion at ambient temperatures and provides a "reactive" solvent that provides carbon upon pyrolysis.

Compositions And Methods For Making Ceramic Matrix Composites

View page
US Patent:
50249789, Jun 18, 1991
Filed:
May 30, 1989
Appl. No.:
7/358589
Inventors:
Roger A. Allaire - Big Flats NY
Mark S. Friske - Corning NY
Sandra L. Hagg - Corning NY
Victor F. Janas - Horseheads NY
Assignee:
Corning Incorporated - Corning NY
International Classification:
C04B 3502
C04B 3508
US Classification:
501 95
Abstract:
Fiber-reinforced ceramic matrix composite articles are fabricated by combining inorganic reinforcing fibers with dispersions of powdered ceramic matrix materials in organic vehicles which are thermoplastic solids. The dispersions are solid at room temperature, and are melted and combined with the fibers as heated liquid dispersions. Following application to the fibers, the thermoplastic dispersions are solidified by simple cooling; no solvent removal or drying step is required.

Glass-Ceramics And Color Package

View page
US Patent:
54223180, Jun 6, 1995
Filed:
Jun 10, 1994
Appl. No.:
8/258271
Inventors:
Sandra L. Hagg - Corning NY
Robert W. Pfitzenmaier - Canisteo NY
Charles C. Smith - Corning NY
Assignee:
Corning Incorporated - Corning NY
International Classification:
C03C 1014
US Classification:
501 4
Abstract:
A colored, transparent glass-ceramic having a beta-quartz solid solution as its primary crystal phase, and a method of producing the glass-ceramic. The glass-ceramic is produced from a Li. sub. 2 O--Al. sub. 2 O. sub. 3 --SiO. sub. 2 precursor glass containing an amount of TiO. sub. 2 effective as a nucleating agent up to about 6%, and having a color package composed of 10-20 ppm Co. sub. 3 O. sub. 4, 550-650 ppm Fe. sub. 2 O. sub. 3, 19. 5-20. 5% Al. sub. 2 O. sub. 3 and 2. 5-3. 0% Li. sub. 2 O.
