Aircraft Pylon

View page
US Patent:
51563533, Oct 20, 1992
Filed:
Apr 13, 1987
Appl. No.:
7/037764
Inventors:
Philip R. Gliebe - Cincinnati OH
Rudramuni K. Majjigi - Cincinnati OH
Assignee:
General Electric Company - Cincinnati OH
International Classification:
B64D 2700
US Classification:
244 54
Abstract:
An aircraft propulsion system includes at least one pusher propeller mounted to a nacelle mounted to the aircraft by a pylon which produces a wake which impinges upon the propeller. The wake from the pylon is modified to reduce noise and vibration produced by the propeller interaction with the wake. The propulsion system may include a pair of counterrotating pusher propellers.

Acoustically Shielded Exhaust System For High Thrust Jet Engines

View page
US Patent:
54029635, Apr 4, 1995
Filed:
Oct 18, 1993
Appl. No.:
8/138569
Inventors:
John P. Carey - Upper Marlboro MD
Robert Lee - Cincinnati OH
Rudramuni K. Majjigi - Cincinnati OH
Assignee:
General Electric Company - Cincinnati OH
International Classification:
B64D 3304
US Classification:
244 1N
Abstract:
A flade exhaust nozzle for a high thrust jet engine is configured to form an acoustic shield around the core engine exhaust flowstream while supplementing engine thrust during all flight conditions, particularly during takeoff. The flade airflow is converted from an annular 360. degree. flowstream to an arcuate flowstream extending around the lower half of the core engine exhaust flowstream so as to suppress exhaust noise directed at the surrounding community.

Acoustic Liners With Enhanced Acoustic Absorption And Reduced Drag Characteristics

View page
US Patent:
20200309028, Oct 1, 2020
Filed:
Mar 29, 2019
Appl. No.:
16/370124
Inventors:
- Schenectady NY, US
- Baltimore MD, US
Egbert Geertsema - Cincinnati OH, US
Rudramuni Kariveerappa Majjigi - Cincinnati OH, US
Richard David Cedar - Cincinnati OH, US
Wendy Wenling Lin - Montgomery OH, US
Robert William Davidoff - Pittsburgh PA, US
David Patrick Calder - Baltimore MD, US
Graham Frank Howarth - Middletown DE, US
International Classification:
F02C 7/045
F02K 1/82
F04D 29/66
Abstract:
An acoustic liner may include an acoustic core having an array of resonant cells, and an acoustic screen disposed across the array of resonant cells. The resonant cells include a plurality of cell walls and a resonant space defined by the plurality of cell walls. The acoustic core may include a folded acoustic core. Additionally, or in the alternative, at least some of the resonant cells may include an oblique polyhedral cellular structure and/or a multitude of sound-attenuating protuberances. The acoustic screen may include a reticulate membrane and a support lattice.

US Patent:
20190272812, Sep 5, 2019
Filed:
May 17, 2019
Appl. No.:
16/415754
Inventors:
- Schenectady NY, US
- Wilmington DE, US
Rudramuni Kariveerappa Majjigi - Cincinnati OH, US
David Patrick Calder - Baltimore MD, US
Aaron Goldsholl - Liberty Township OH, US
International Classification:
G10K 11/172
B32B 3/12
B32B 7/12
G10K 11/168
Abstract:
An acoustic liner and a method of attenuating noise are provided. The acoustic liner includes a face sheet, a back sheet spaced from the face sheet, and a core layer extending between the face sheet and the back sheet. The core layer includes a plurality of resonant cells, each resonant cell including at least one cell wall coupled to the back sheet along a cell wall base edge. The at least one cell wall extends from the back sheet at an angle toward the face sheet. The at least one cell wall further coupled to the face sheet along a cell wall top edge. The resonant cell is formed in a predetermined shape and contains a volume in a space defined by the at least one cell wall, the back sheet, and the face sheet. The cell wall base edge length is greater than the cell wall top edge length.
