View page
US Patent:
60631627, May 16, 2000
Filed:
Dec 22, 1998
Appl. No.:
9/218889
Inventors:
Paul J. Orosz - Amherst NY
Robert L. Zeller - Youngstown NY
Ronald B. Kaplin - Lewiston NY
Assignee:
Occidental Chemical Corporation - Dallas TX
International Classification:
B01D 5314
US Classification:
95182
Abstract:
Disclosed is a method of removing chlorine from a mixture of gases. The mixture of gases is contacted with dichlorotoluene, whereby chlorine in the mixture of gases is absorbed by the dichlorotoluene. The dichlorotoluene is separated from the mixture of gases and is heated to desorb the chlorine and separate it from the dichlorotoluene.

Assignee:
Occidental Chemcial Corporation - Niagara Falls NY
International Classification:
C01B 707
US Classification:
423240S
Abstract:
Disclosed is a process for separating chlorine gas from a mixture of gases. The mixture of gases is cooled to a temperature less than 0. degree. C. and is contacted with ice, which results in the formation of chlorine hydrate on the ice. The ice is separated from the mixture of gases and is heated or the operating pressure reduced to release chlorine.

US Patent:
54377110, Aug 1, 1995
Filed:
Dec 16, 1993
Appl. No.:
8/167294
Inventors:
Ronald B. Kaplin - Lewiston NY
Chao-Peng Chen - Grand Island NY
Tilak V. Bommaraju - Grand Island NY
Assignee:
Occidental Chemical Corporation - Niagara Falls NY
International Classification:
B01D 5314
US Classification:
95182
Abstract:
Disclosed is a method to be practiced in a gas purification apparatus that is suitable for contacting a chlorine-containing mixture of gases with carbon tetrachloride in order to remove one of the gases from the mixture. The gas removed can be either chlorine or another gas such as nitrogen trichloride. In the method of the invention, one of the gases is removed from the mixture in that apparatus without using carbon tetrachloride by contacting the chlorine-containing gas mixture in the apparatus with a chlorinated organic liquid which can either be chloroform or ethylene dichloride.
