Jul 15, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/182907
Inventors:
Qiang Li - Foster City CA, US
Ron-Chung Hu - Palo Alto CA, US
HanCheng Hsiung - Union City CA, US
Assignee:
Symantec Operating Corporation - Mountain View CA
International Classification:
G06F 15/173
G06F 15/167
US Classification:
709226, 709215, 709216
Abstract:
Procedures and systems may be used for assigning data partitions to data-processing host computers, for example, to initially assign data partitions at the outset of a large data-processing job or during failover measures taken in response to a failed host in a share-nothing database management system (SN-DBMS). In one implementation, a method of managing exclusive access to a data partition within a database system assesses a first host and a second host that have exclusive access to a first and second data partition, respectively, within a database system. The method assigns exclusive access of the data partition to one of the first and second hosts based on factors that may include the processing powers of first and second the hosts, and on processing requirements (such as data quantity and data criticalness) for data on the first and second data partitions.

Method And System For Routing Network Traffic Based Upon Application Information

US Patent:
20020136204, Sep 26, 2002
Filed:
Feb 6, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/072564
Inventors:
Li-wen Chen - Cupertino CA, US
Ron-Chung Hu - Palo Alto CA, US
Assignee:
MetaEdge Corporation - Sunnyvale CA
International Classification:
H04L012/56
US Classification:
370/352000, 370/389000
Abstract:
The present invention provides techniques for routing network traffic based upon application information. Specific embodiments provide users, such as businesspersons or other professionals with the capability to understand relationships among customers or clients, for example, and to manipulate traffic in enterprise network resources based upon these relationships. Various network applications, such as HTTP, SNMP, and the like, are supported by specific embodiments. Content-based routing methods can direct network traffic based on the Uniform Resource Locator (URL), which may contain an HTTP cookie in certain embodiments. Accordingly, novel ways to define the cookie by including the application data obtained from customer data analysis can be used with specific embodiments. Multidimensional models, statistical computations, rule based systems, report generators, and the like can be used with various specific embodiments in order to enable the decision maker to understand, analyze and present relationships among various information entities.

Abstract:
A system and method for performing self-learning for adaptively achieving passenger comfort enhancement in an autonomous vehicle. The system comprises a plurality of sensor inputs. Each sensor input provides data representative of voice responses and image responses from a passenger in the vehicle. A controller is coupled to the plurality of sensor inputs. The controller generates and updates a reward function that includes a plurality of driving state transitions. The reward function is updated based on destination information and the data representative of the voice and image responses. The controller further generates a goal function that determines an optimized driving state transition updates the goal function based on the updated reward function and a previous goal function. The controller also generates a vehicle speed control signal, based on the updated goal function, to control the speed of the autonomous vehicle.
