Appl. No.:
09/432258
Inventors:
Robert J. Davis - Metairie LA
Robert E. Rouquette - Kenner LA
Assignee:
Axonn, L.L.C. - New Orleans LA
International Classification:
H04L 2705
US Classification:
375344, 455 674, 455 71
Abstract:
A method utilizing intentionally generated in-band frequency harmonics to compensate for frequency error and frequency drift in a voltage controlled oscillator of a receiver, thereby eliminating the frequency synthesizer and RF divider required in conventional designs. The method includes modulating the intentionally generated frequency in a predetermined manner so that a receiver can identify the intentionally generated frequency and includes the use of plural frequency harmonics for use in a curve fitting technique to correct frequency error in the voltage controlled oscillator.

Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum Method Computer-Based Product Apparatus And System Tolerant To Frequency Reference Offset

View page
US Patent:
6639939, Oct 28, 2003
Filed:
Jul 22, 1999
Appl. No.:
09/359441
Inventors:
Gary A. Naden - Mandeville LA
Robert E. Rouquette - Kenner LA
Dale E. Reiser - New Orleans LA
Assignee:
Axonn L.L.C. - New Orleans LA
International Classification:
H04B 1707
US Classification:
375140, 375344, 375355
Abstract:
A method, apparatus, computer-based product and system employs a digital receiver (or transceiver) to receive, digitize and process a direct sequence spread spectrum signal using efficient, low-cost digital signal processing components. A radio front end portion of the receiver receives and digitizes the signal, and a digital signal processing portion downconverts and despreads the signal by applying a pseudorandom noise (PN) code, used at a transmitter to spread a data signal contained in the direct sequence spread spectrum signal, to the received signal. In order to initially align, and maintain alignment of, the PN code with the direct sequence spread spectrum signal, a timing and state control mechanism is included that provides time reference correction information to the signal processing components of the receiver. This time reference correction information allows the receiver to be compatible with transmitters using inaccurate frequency references which impart a significant frequency ambiguity in the received signal. Additional features include computer-based synchronization methods and mechanisms suitable for use for low performance digital signal processors and employ power management mechanisms that enable long-term operation using battery power.

Narrow-Band Interference Rejecting Spread Spectrum Radio System And Method

View page
US Patent:
6975673, Dec 13, 2005
Filed:
Jul 14, 1999
Appl. No.:
09/720270
Inventors:
Robert E. Rouquette - Kenner LA, US
Assignee:
Axonn, L.L.C. - New Orleans LA
International Classification:
H04B001/707
US Classification:
375149, 375355, 375145, 375284, 375285
Abstract:
A spread spectrum receiver and method having narrow-band interference rejection of narrow-band jamming signals using digital signal processing frequency domain techniques. The method performed in the receiver includes transforming the received signal to a frequency domain signal and identifying narrow-band interference components in the frequency domain signal; suppressing the identified narrow-band interference components by excising the identified narrow-band interference components from the frequency domain signal to produce an interference excised signal in the frequency domain, and storing in a memory frequencies corresponding to the identified narrow-band interference components; synchronizing a receiver code to a transmitter code in the frequency domain using the interference excised signal; generating coefficients for a time domain filter that includes notches at the frequencies corresponding to the excised narrow-band interference components and that jointly despreads and rejects narrow-band interference from the excised frequencies; applying the coefficients generated in the preceding step to the time domain filter, and despreading and filtering in real time in the time domain the received signal using the applied coefficients.

Towed Streamer Deghosting

View page
US Patent:
7167413, Jan 23, 2007
Filed:
May 1, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/380972
Inventors:
Robert E. Rouquette - Kenner LA, US
Assignee:
Input/Output - Stafford TX
International Classification:
G01V 1/00
G01V 1/38
US Classification:
367 20, 181110, 181112
Abstract:
Apparatus and methods for reducing ghosts from hydrophone signals in a streamer towed underwater close to the sea surface. A multi-axis micro-electro-mechanical-system (MEMS) accelerometer with attitude sensing is used to reduce the frequency spectral notch in the response of the combined hydrophone-accelerometer system and to reduce the sensitivity to ghost-producing downward traveling acoustic waves that are sea-surface reflections of the primary upward traveling acoustic waves. Multi-axis spring load cells provide high compliance and mechanical isolation between stress members and the accelerometer system. The load cells also provide signals representing the vibration of the stress members. The signals can be used with an adaptive filter estimating the mechanical transfer function between the vibration and the motion of the accelerometer system to remove the vibration-induced noise from the accelerometer signals.

Gps-Based Underwater Cable Positioning System

View page
US Patent:
7190634, Mar 13, 2007
Filed:
May 22, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/509703
Inventors:
Dale J. Lambert - Mandeville LA, US
Robert E. Rouquette - Kenner LA, US
Daniel B. Seale - Harahan LA, US
Clem B. Guillot - Thibodaux LA, US
Assignee:
Input/Output, Inc. - Stafford TX
International Classification:
G01V 1/40
US Classification:
367128
Abstract:
A GPS-based underwater cable positioning system for use in determining the shape and position of hydrophone streamers towed underwater behind survey vessels involved in marine seismic prospecting. The system includes a plurality of surface units towed behind the vessel. Each surface unit includes a GPS receiver to receive radio frequency GPS signals and to determine its positions. Each surface unit also has an acoustic transmitter to transmit an acoustic message signal representing its position and an optional time stamp into the water. Acoustic receiver units, attached spaced apart locations along one or more streamer cables, each include an acoustic receiver to receive the acoustic message signals from the surface units and to determine its position from the message signals. To augment the message signals from the surface units at locations distant from the surface units, acoustic transceiver units may be used. The acoustic transceiver units are attached to the streamer cables at ranges between the surface units and distant acoustic receiver units.
