Abstract:
A panel structure having a low-density core that can withstanding loads normal to a first primary surface, and a first facing of high-density sheet material that can extend along the first primary surface. The high-density sheet material can be laminated on the core such that the laminated core and facing cooperatively resist bending loads and loads along the primary surface. The first facing can extend from the first primary surface on a side of the core along a secondary surface, which can be non-parallel to the first primary surface. The first facing can bend along a score line between the first primary surface and the secondary surface.

Pre-Formed Honeycomb Protector

US Patent:
20020025404, Feb 28, 2002
Filed:
Jun 7, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/877282
Inventors:
Thomas Taber - Park Ridge IL, US
Robert Jaegers - Lake Zurich IL, US
Michael Napson - Columbia SC, US
International Classification:
B32B003/12
US Classification:
428/118000, 493/059000
Abstract:
A pre-formed honeycomb protector for protecting the edges of articles during shipping is disclosed. The honeycomb protector of the present invention comprises a panel including a honeycomb core having a plurality of abutting cells defining a plurality of abutting top and bottom hollow cell faces respectively. A bottom face sheet is secured over and abutting the bottom hollow cell faces of the honeycomb core and a top face sheet is secured over and abutting the top hollow cell faces of the honeycomb core. The honeycomb panel is crushed or cut so as to be made foldable. Adhesive is then applied to the surfaces exposed by the crushing or cutting, and the resulting two folding panels separated by the crushed or cut area are folded inward to form an “L” shaped edge protector.

US Patent:
20120305440, Dec 6, 2012
Filed:
May 4, 2012
Appl. No.:
13/464268
Inventors:
Robert E. Jaegers - Lake Zurich IL, US
Assignee:
Hexacomb Corporation - Deerfield IL
International Classification:
B65D 21/032
B65D 71/00
US Classification:
206564
Abstract:
A product-stacking structure that holds a plurality of products on a horizontal base and includes a plurality of side sections extending generally upright from the horizontal base section (e.g., walls). The walls are configured and dimensioned for retaining bottom features of the products within. The horizontal base includes a horizontal base surface and a void region creating a boundary that restricts movement of upper features of the products in at least one horizontal direction. The product-stacking structure also includes a supportive pad affixed to the first portion over the horizontal bottom section and within the plurality of side sections to cover the void region and configured for supporting products stacked thereon.

Honeycomb Protector With Impact Resistant Corner

View page
US Patent:
59508353, Sep 14, 1999
Filed:
Dec 24, 1996
Appl. No.:
8/773658
Inventors:
Paul Moser - Milford CT
Robert E. Jaegers - Lake Zurich IL
Raymond A. Kowalski - Mundelien IL
Assignee:
Tenneco Packaging Inc. - Lake Forest IL
International Classification:
B65D 8102
US Classification:
206586
Abstract:
A honeycomb protector for protecting the corners and edges of articles during shipping comprising a honeycomb panel foldable between a flat position and a folded position. The panel includes a honeycomb core sandwiched between top and bottom face sheets. The top face sheet includes a slitted segment defining a hinge about which the panel can be folded. In the folded position, the panel includes an impact absorbing corner comprising a region of the panel where the partition walls of the honeycomb core converge towards the top face sheet and the hollow-cell faces of the core abutting the top face sheet are laterally flattened and compressed.

Apparatus For Making Prestressed Honeycomb

View page
US Patent:
58040307, Sep 8, 1998
Filed:
Mar 18, 1996
Appl. No.:
8/553582
Inventors:
Robert E. Jaegers - Lake Zurich IL
Rueben C. Carder - Michigan City IN
William B. Woodward - Irving TX
Robert R. Reed - Wallingford CT
Assignee:
Hexacomb Corporation - Lake Forest IL
International Classification:
B32B 312
US Classification:
156510
Abstract:
An apparatus for forming a resilient prestressed honeycomb structure from a honeycomb structure having opposed hollow-ell faces defining opposed planar surfaces. The apparatus comprises a conveyor for conveying the honeycomb structure and a compression apparatus for compressively deforming at least a portion of the honeycomb structure. When the honeycomb structure is conveyed past the compression apparatus, the compression apparatus compressively deforms one of the planar surfaces of the honeycomb structure to form a resilient prestressed cushioned face portion. The compression apparatus comprises a plurality of parallel and elongate compression rolls for compressively deforming the honeycomb structure to form the resilient prestressed cushioned face portion. The compression apparatus further comprises a roll height adjuster for positioning the compression rolls at different heights to incrementally compress the planar surfaces of the honeycomb structure when the honeycomb structure is conveyed past the compression rolls.
