Architecture For A Hybrid Stm/Atm Add-Drop Multiplexer

View page
US Patent:
6359859, Mar 19, 2002
Filed:
Jun 3, 1999
Appl. No.:
09/325187
Inventors:
Stephen J. Brolin - Livingston NJ
Robert W. DeMarco - Whippany NJ
Assignee:
Fujitsu Network Communications, Inc. - Richardson TX
International Classification:
H04L 1244
US Classification:
370218, 370352, 3703951, 370401, 370407, 370425, 709201, 709221, 709249, 709252
Abstract:
An architecture for a SONET network element, such as a hybrid STM/ATM add-drop multiplexer. The disclosed system includes an interconnection system for a network element, including a line unit slot, a switch fabric slot, and two or more service unit slots. The line unit slot is connected as a hub to the switch fabric slot and the service unit slots in a first star interconnection configuration. The switch fabric slot is connected as a hub to the line unit slot and the service unit slots in a second star interconnection configuration. The star interconnection configurations provide fault isolation between different units, and allow for replacement of failed units without interfering with the links of other units to the hub. In a preferred embodiment, the switch fabric slot and one of the service unit slots comprise the same slot, thus permitting flexible configuration of the device within a minimal space. In a further illustrative embodiment, a control unit slot is provided in the interconnection system, and connected as a hub to the line unit slot, the switch fabric slot, and the service unit slots to form a third star interconnection configuration.

H04J 14/08
US Classification:
370219, 370401, 370407, 370425, 398 2, 398 58
Abstract:
A network element including an active/standby pair of line units, an active/standby pair of switch fabric units, at least one service unit, and a management and control unit. Each line unit maintains data communications using a first communications protocol. Each switch fabric unit maintains data communications using a second communications protocol. Each service unit includes a first backplane interface supporting the first communications protocol, and a second backplane interface supporting the second communications protocol. The management and control unit provides a control infrastructure for selectively communicating data units between the active/standby pair of line units, the active/standby pair of switch fabric units, and the service unit, responsive to provisioning information or information contained within the respective data unit.

Infrared Camera For Locating A Target Using At Least One Shaped Light Source

View page
US Patent:
7820967, Oct 26, 2010
Filed:
Sep 11, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/898247
Inventors:
Robert DeMarco - Whippany NJ, US
Frank Vallese - Montville NJ, US
Gerard DiTaranto - Parsippany NJ, US
Assignee:
Electrophysics Corp. - Fairfield NJ
International Classification:
G01J 5/00
US Classification:
250330
Abstract:
An infrared camera including optics and a detector sensitive to infrared radiation is used in conjunction with at least one light source, such as a laser, to locate a reference point on a target. Two intersecting line segments are produced by the one light source or a combination of two light sources to locate the reference point on the target. The infrared camera would display both an infrared image as well as a visible image which can be merged onto a single display. The teaching of the present invention could also be used to determine the distance to the target as well as the area of the target.

Inventors:
Gordon Cooke - Warwick NY, US
Robert DeMarco - Springfield NJ, US
Elizabeth Mezzacappa - Edison NJ, US
Gladstone Reid - Clifton NJ, US
John Riedener - Stanhope NJ, US
Caitlin Weaver - Lyndhurst NJ, US
International Classification:
G06F 17/50
G06F 17/18
G06G 7/48
Abstract:
A system and method for creating modeling and simulation operational planning tools of human crowd behavior, in order to provide commanders with the capability to forecast crowd response to military or other control force tactics, techniques, and procedures. The modeling system or method use empirical data by collecting data on human crowd behavior under controlled laboratory conditions. It builds a mathematical model by using the collected data to reflect statistical relationships among the input and output data. It further statistically compares between the recorded empirical data and the data predicted by the present system or method. It creates simulation process steps based on the empirical mathematical model.
