Slug Retention Groove Forming Machine And Method

View page
US Patent:
20130252517, Sep 26, 2013
Filed:
Mar 14, 2013
Appl. No.:
13/828399
Inventors:
Robert B. DeCore - Batavia IL, US
Assignee:
DTC Products - St. Charles IL
International Classification:
B24B 19/20
US Classification:
451344, 451340, 451363
Abstract:
A portable and transportable die cavity modifying machine having a base carrying a carriage adjustable along one axis, e.g., a generally horizontal axis, and a machining head adjustable along another axis, e.g., a generally vertical axis, for modifying a die cavity of a stamping die in a manner that prevents blank or slug pulling during stamping press operation. The machine includes a grinder that can be pneumatically powered having a grinding bit used to precisely machine a slug retention groove in a die cavity defining surface (sidewall) of a die cavity formed in a stamping die. The machine has an angularly adjustable head carrying the grinder enabling adjustment of the angle of the groove relative to die cavity defining surface enabling the groove to be angled relative to the direction of a punch entering the die cavity during stamping.

Gasket Assembly Having A Sealing Insert Member And Method Of Forming

View page
US Patent:
47830875, Nov 8, 1988
Filed:
Apr 13, 1987
Appl. No.:
7/037718
Inventors:
Robert A. DeCore - Elk Grove Village IL
Raymond Kartasuk - Lincolnwood IL
Assignee:
Fel-Pro Incorporated - Skokie IL
International Classification:
B23P 1100
F16J 1512
US Classification:
277166
Abstract:
A gasket assembly comprising a main gasket body and a sealing insert member retained within an opening in the body is disclosed, as is a method of making the assembly. The sealing insert member, which may comprise a sealing grommet or the like, is provided with a plurality of star-like deformable tabs at the outer periphery thereof, with each of the tabs initially formed in a generally dished configuration. The opening in the gasket body which receives the insert member includes a plurality of tab-receiving apertures at the outer edge thereof, with each of the deformable tabs respectively received within one of the apertures. Upon positioning of the insert member within the opening, each of the deformable tabs is deformed, such as by swaging between associated punches, whereby each tab is flattened and urged into engagement with the associated gasket body for retention of the sealing insert member in position.

Wicking-Resistant Gasket Assembly

US Patent:
43007791, Nov 17, 1981
Filed:
Jun 9, 1980
Appl. No.:
6/157425
Inventors:
Robert A. DeCore - Elk Grove Village IL
Anthony J. Bucher - Chicago IL
Assignee:
Felt Products Mfg. Co. - Skokie IL
International Classification:
F16J 1512
US Classification:
277235B
Abstract:
The construction and method of forming a wicking-resistant gasket assembly for an internal combustion engine is described. The gasket assembly includes a flat-elongated base, a layer of composite, porous gasket material on each face of the base, armor at the combustion chamber openings, and a peripheral bead of elastomeric material enveloping the edges of the gasket material sheets and the base to prevent the wicking of liquids from the gasket assembly layers outwardly through the periphery of the gasket assembly. The bead is applied to contact the free margin of the facing material and the peripheral edge of the base. The bead is preferably cured in place concurrently with the lamination and curing of the facing materials.

Method Of Forming A Gasket With Enhanced Sealing Characteristics

US Patent:
48306983, May 16, 1989
Filed:
Apr 20, 1988
Appl. No.:
7/183784
Inventors:
Robert A. DeCore - Elk Grove Village IL
Thomas J. Justus - Arlington Heights IL
Assignee:
Fel-Pro Incorporated - Skokie IL
International Classification:
B32B 3112
US Classification:
156219
Abstract:
A method of forming a gasket with an accurately aligned and deposited sealing bead and embossment arrangement. The method comprises providing a deformable gasket body having two spaced apart major surfaces. The next step involves applying a relatively imcompressible sealing material against one of the major surfaces on the gasket body with sufficient pressure and in a manner deforming both of the major surfaces of the gasket body. The deformation of the gasket body defines an embossment comprising a projection extending outwardly from one major surface and a substantially corresponding indentation extending inwardly from the other major surface. Besides creating an embossment, sealing material remains in and fills the indentation to provide support for the embossment. Another step in the process involves curing the sealing material filling the indentation in the gasket body.

Improved Slug Retention Groove Forming Machine And Method Of Use And Operation Thereof

US Patent:
20170312876, Nov 2, 2017
Filed:
Jul 18, 2017
Appl. No.:
15/652495
Inventors:
- St. Charles IL, US
Robert B. DeCore - Batavia IL, US
International Classification:
B24B 19/20
B24B 23/02
The machine includes a stop that is adjustably connected to the carriage. The stop is configured to limit movement of the machining head along the generally vertical axis. The machine may also feature a vibration isolator that is used with the stop to prevent noise and vibration that result from movement of the machining head in relation to the stop. Additionally, the machine may include an optical device capable of capturing an image of the die cavity defining sidewall as the rotary grinding bit machines the elongate slug retention groove.
