Carol L. Knox - Monroeville PA
Michael O. Okoroafor - Export PA
Robert A. Smith - Murrysville PA
Rifat Tabakovic - Troy MI
Assignee:
PPG Industries Ohio, Inc. - Cleveland OH
International Classification:
G02B 523
US Classification:
252586, 528 61, 528 62, 528 64, 4284231, 4284233, 4284235, 4284242, 351163
Abstract:
Described are photochromic organic resin compositions and the impact resistant polymerizates and coating compositions made therefrom. The organic resin composition comprises the reaction product of at least one polyol having greater than 1. 0 hydroxyl groups; at least one polyisocyanate having greater than 1. 0 isocyanato groups; and at least one polyamine curing agent having greater than 1. 0 amino groups. The polymerizates are made photochromic either by the addition of organic photochromic compounds to the reactants used to form the polymerizate or by methods that imbibe or transfer the photochromic compounds into the polymerizate. Optically clear photochromic and impact resistant articles such as ophthalmic lenses and articles having photochromic coatings prepared from the photochromic organic resin compositions are also described.

US Classification:
528 60, 348902, 359241, 359244, 359642, 4284231, 528 61, 528 63, 528 64, 528 73
Abstract:
The present invention is directed to a novel method of preparing a polymerizate, which includes the step of polymerizing a two-component composition, which includes: a first component containing at least one polycyanate reactant having at least two functional groups selected from isocyanate, isothiocyanate and combinations thereof, the polycyanate reactant being the reaction product of: a polythiol monomer having at least two thiol groups; and a polycyanate monomer having at least two functional groups selected from isocyanate, isothiocyanate and combinations thereof; and a second component containing at least one polyamine reactant having at least two functional groups selected from primary amine, secondary amine and combinations thereof. The molar equivalent ratio of (NCO+NCS) groups from the first component to (—NH+—NH—) groups from the second component is from 0. 5 to 100. The present invention is also directed to polymerizates prepared according to the method of the present invention.

Appl. No.:
10/564189
Inventors:
Huzeir Lekovic - Troy MI, US
Ali El-Khatib - Dearborn MI, US
Frank Vincent Billotto - Oakland Township MI, US
Rifat Tabakovic - Rochester Hills MI, US
Ali Ozasahin - Plymouth MI, US
Assignee:
Dow Global Technologies LLC - Midland MI
International Classification:
C08G 18/08
US Classification:
521115, 521116, 521117, 521118, 521128, 521129, 521130, 521137, 521159, 521164, 521167, 521170, 521174
Abstract:
Polyurethane foams are made and attached to a substrate having an open cavity, but reacting prepolymer and polyol components in the presence of certain carbamate blowing agents. This process allows for very fast curing, good quality, adherent foamy to be produced on, for example, vehicle parts and assemblies, for acoustical or vibration dampening and for structural reinforcement.

US Patent:
20050176839, Aug 11, 2005
Filed:
Feb 10, 2004
Appl. No.:
10/776648
Inventors:
Huzeir Lekovic - Troy MI, US
Rifat Tabakovic - Rochester Hills MI, US
Ali El-Khatib - Dearborn MI, US
Frank Billotto - Oakland Township MI, US
International Classification:
C08G018/00
US Classification:
521155000
Abstract:
Rigid polyurethane foams are described. The foams are made using a prepolymer that is the reaction product of at least one polyisocyanate component, at least one hydroxy-functional acrylate component, and at least one polyol component. The prepolymer is then reacted at specified volume ratios and isocyanate indices with at least one polyol component that includes at least one polyol that is a biopolymer, including but not limited to castor oil, soybean oil, and the like. The foam is made in the presence of at least one blowing agent and at least one catalyst.

US Patent:
20070128367, Jun 7, 2007
Filed:
Mar 8, 2005
Appl. No.:
10/592592
Inventors:
Rifat Tabakovic - Rochester Hills MI, US
Huzeir Lekovic - Troy MI, US
Frank Billotto - Oakland MI, US
Ali El-Khatib - Dearborn MI, US
International Classification:
B05D 3/02
US Classification:
427373000, 427374100
Abstract:
Foam-in-place, one component polyurethane compositions are useful to produce foams that adhere to various substrates such as certain vehicle parts and assemblies. The polyurethane composition contains a heat-activated blowing agent. The composition is based on a polyurethane resin that is expandable. The resin is a heat-softenable material, or a low molecular weight material that engages in further curing during the heat expansion step.
