Casting Apparatus For Electrophoretic Gel Tray

View page
US Patent:
46184082, Oct 21, 1986
Filed:
Nov 29, 1984
Appl. No.:
6/675984
Inventors:
Richard Malavarca - South Orange NJ
Thomas Livelli - Lyndhurst NJ
Assignee:
Lab Stuff, Inc. - South Orange NJ
International Classification:
G01N 2728
US Classification:
204299R
Abstract:
A casting apparatus for receiving electrophoretic gel trays is disclosed. The casting apparatus includes a pair of spaced apart seal elements which are movable with respect to one another to provide one or, more openings of varying size to receive a corresponding gel tray therein. The open ends of the gel tray are sealed by the seal elements so that hot argrose or polyacrylamide gel may be poured into the gel tray for forming a gel layer of predetermined thickness. The seal elements are maintained in sealing engagement with the open ends of the gel trays by means of a rod frictionally engaged between a portion of the housing forming the casting apparatus and one of the seal elements.

Avian Retrovirus-Bovine Growth Hormone Dna

View page
US Patent:
48289876, May 9, 1989
Filed:
May 14, 1984
Appl. No.:
6/609923
Inventors:
John J. Kopchick - Verona NJ
Frederick C. Leung - Scotch Plains NJ
Thomas J. Livelli - Lyndhurst NJ
Richard H. Malavarca - South Orange NJ
Assignee:
Merck & Co., Inc. - Rahway NJ
International Classification:
C12P 2100
C12P 1934
C12N 1500
C12N 700
US Classification:
435 68
Abstract:
Recombinant DNA molecules in which an avian retroviral long terminal repeat (LTR) has been ligated to the bovine growth hormone gene are described herein. The retroviral LTR was derived from a plasmid clone of a Schmidt Rupin strain of Rous Sarcoma Virus while the bovine growth hormone (BGH) gene was derived from a lambda-bacteriophage genomic library. Using a transient eucaryotic expression assay system, the plasmid constructs were screened for their ability to direct expression and secretion of bovine growth hormone. These constructs were co-transformed into a mammalian cell (mouse) culture in order to obtain a stable cell culture secreting large amounts of bovine growth hormone.

US Patent:
46860983, Aug 11, 1987
Filed:
May 14, 1984
Appl. No.:
6/609924
Inventors:
John J. Kopchick - Verona NJ
Frederick C. Leung - Scotch Plains NJ
Thomas J. Livelli - Lyndhurst NJ
Richard H. Malavarca - South Orange NJ
Assignee:
Merck & Co., Inc. - Rahway NJ
International Classification:
A61K 944
A01N 2510
C12N 1102
C12N 1104
US Classification:
424 15
Abstract:
Recombinant DNA constructs having an avian retroviral long terminal repeat (LTR) ligated to the bovine growth hormone gene, were co-transformed into a mammalian cell (mouse) culture in order to obtain a stable cell culture secreting large amounts of bovine growth hormone. The transformed mouse cells were encapsulated in hollow fibers and implanted into animals, thereby producing circulating bovine growth hormone.
