System, Method And Program For Encryption During Routing

View page
US Patent:
7877506, Jan 25, 2011
Filed:
May 26, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/442563
Inventors:
Richard S. Curtis - Fort Collins CO, US
Jason D. Forrester - Thornton CO, US
Assignee:
International Business Machines Corporation - Armonk NY
International Classification:
G06F 15/173
US Classification:
709238
Abstract:
Computer system, method and program for routing. A nonencrypted message packet is received. In response, a payload in the message packet is read to determine if the payload contains sensitive information. If the payload contains sensitive information, the message packet is encrypted and subsequently, routed to a nonsecure communication path. If the payload does not contain sensitive information, the message packet is routed to a nonsecure communication path without encrypting the message packet. The payload can be read to determine if it contains sensitive information by determining a standard for a format of the message packet, and based on the standard, determining a location of data within the message packet and a type of the data at the location.

G06F 7/04
G06F 7/58
G06K 19/00
US Classification:
726 4, 726 5, 726 12
Abstract:
Computer system, method and program for managing authentication requests. At a gateway device to a network, packets of a message intended for said network are received. In response, fields within payloads of said packets which contain authentication or authorization information are read. In response, the message is redirected to an authentication server. In response to receipt of the redirected message from the gateway device, the authentication server determines that a requester who sent the message to the gateway device is authorized to access a target resource specified in the message and responds to the gateway device that the requester is authorized to access the target resource. In response, the gateway device responds to the requester that the requester is authorized to access the target resource. In response to the response from the authentication server that the requester is authorized to access the target resource, the gateway device notifies a server hosting the target resource that the requester is authorized to access the target resource. If the gateway device receives a subsequent message from the requester to utilize the target resource, the gateway device forwards the message toward the server hosting the target resource.

Method And System For Unusual Usage Reporting

View page
US Patent:
20140006314, Jan 2, 2014
Filed:
Feb 12, 2013
Appl. No.:
13/765045
Inventors:
Tom Mercer - San Francisco CA, US
Eric Chang - Menlo Park CA, US
Richard Tyler Curtis - Washington DC, US
Daniel J. Yates - Washington DC, US
Assignee:
Opower, Inc. - Arlington VA
International Classification:
G06Q 30/02
US Classification:
705412
Abstract:
Illustrative embodiments of the present invention are directed to methods and computer systems for reporting unusual or anomalous usage or spending of a commodity by consumers. A computer system retrieves a set of usage-information datasets corresponding to a set of consumers, each dataset including past usage of the commodity during at least one of a completed billing period and a current usage of the commodity during the current billing period. The computer system establishes a set of report-trigger conditions for the current billing period, each of the report-trigger conditions corresponding to a consumer. The computer system monitor usage or spending of the set of consumers to determine, for each consumer, whether an estimated usage established for each consumer fulfills the consumer's report-trigger condition. Once the report-trigger condition is fulfilled, the computer system outputs a report to the consumer.

Air Handler

View page
US Patent:
40440788, Aug 23, 1977
Filed:
Feb 9, 1976
Appl. No.:
5/656121
Inventors:
Richard E. Curtis - Pleasanton CA
Robert H. Dench - Monte Sereno CA
Victor J. Dervin - Cupertino CA
Assignee:
N.P.I. Corporation - Burlingame CA
International Classification:
B01F 304
US Classification:
261 30
Abstract:
An air handler especially for use with a produce storage room has a housing with an air inlet near the bottom and an air outlet near the top. A fan or blower supplies air above atmospheric pressure to the inlet for flow through the housing and discharge from the top thereof and through a duct leading to the storage room. Adjacent the housing there is a water cooler, usually operated in a refrigerator circuit, into which water is introduced from a collector near the bottom of the housing and from which the cooled water is discharged into a distributor in the housing near the top thereof. The distributor, preferably a number of sprays, discharges the cooled water to fall over and through a water and air baffle unit within the housing between the inlet and the outlet thereof and into the collector. The water and air baffle unit has a plurality of expanded metal plates, conveniently of aluminum, extending substantially horizontally across the interior of the housing between the distributor and the collector, with the metal plates vertically separated and supported to provide intervening, cross spaces for air and water flow.

US Patent:
43779352, Mar 29, 1983
Filed:
Sep 14, 1981
Appl. No.:
6/302317
Inventors:
Richard E. Curtis - Pleasanton CA
International Classification:
F60H 304
US Classification:
62239
Abstract:
A produce cooler for cooling produce placed on the floor in an enclosure and wherein the enclosure includes a cooling compartment for cooling air passing therethrough. The floor is formed of sections spaced apart to form slots therebetween through which cooling air can pass. Air passages are positioned beneath the floor in communication with the cooling compartment to carry air from the slots. A fan forces air through the cooling compartment such that produce placed along the slots will have air drawn thereacross for cooling.

US Patent:
41239172, Nov 7, 1978
Filed:
Aug 10, 1977
Appl. No.:
5/823394
Inventors:
Richard E. Curtis - Pleasanton CA
Robert H. Dench - Monte Sereno CA
Victor J. Dervin - Cupertino CA
Assignee:
NPI Corporation - Burlingame CA
International Classification:
F25D 1704
F26B 700
US Classification:
62309
Abstract:
A produce cooler is for use with produce disposed in an enclosure. A vertically extending cooling compartment is located adjacent the enclosure. Within the cooling compartment is a horizontally extending heat exchanger substantially above the bottom of the compartment and well below the top thereof. A demister also extends across the cooling compartment below the top of it and sufficiently above the heat exchanger to leave an intervening chamber. There is a plenum between the produce enclosure and the cooling compartment in communication with produce in the compartment and in communication with the cooling compartment. A fan circulates air from the produce in the compartment through the plenum and into the bottom of the cooling compartment so that the air is made to rise upwardly therethrough and return from the top thereof to the produce in the cooling compartment. The heat exchanger comprises a series of superposed, generally horizontal plates of expanded metal held apart by spacers and subject to a cold water spray from spray nozzles. The spray falls through the heat exchanger and onto the floor of the cooling compartment, from which the water discharges into a sump and flows over a cooling coil, thus having its temperature reduced.

System, Method And Program For Determining Compliance With A Service Level Agreement

View page
US Patent:
20100299153, Nov 25, 2010
Filed:
May 24, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/785878
Inventors:
Richard S. Curtis - Ft. Collins CO, US
Paul Kontogiorgis - Longmont CO, US
Patrick McCarthy - Longmont CO, US
Assignee:
INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORPORATION - Armonk NY
International Classification:
G06Q 99/00
G06F 17/30
US Classification:
705 11, 707769, 707E17014
Abstract:
System, method and program product for monitoring a computer program or database maintained by a service provider for a customer. A multiplicity of failures of the computer program or data base during a reporting interval are identified. The times of the multiplicity of failures are compared to one or more scheduled maintenance windows. A determination is made that at least one of the multiplicity of failures occurred during the one or more scheduled maintenance windows. A determination is also made that the customer was responsible for at least another one of the multiplicity of failures. A determination is made that the service provider was responsible for a plurality of the failures not including the at least one failure occurring during the one or more scheduled maintenance windows and the at least another one failure for which the customer was responsible. A determination is made whether the service provider complied with a service level agreement based on the plurality of the outages. This may be based on a percent time each reporting interval that the computer program had failed based on durations of the plurality of failures. The computer program may need information from another computer program or other database to function normally. If this other computer program or other database failed during the reporting interval, and the customer was responsible for the failure of the other computer program or other database, the service provider is not charged for the failure of the first said computer program. A determination is made as to a monetary cost to a business of the customer for the plurality of said failures.
