Communications Processor

View page
US Patent:
43630944, Dec 7, 1982
Filed:
Jun 4, 1980
Appl. No.:
6/156451
Inventors:
Pradeep Kaul - Rockville MD
Daniel Wendling - Rockville MD
Harold Ford - Germantown MD
Christopher Newport - Annandale VA
Assignee:
M/A-COM DDC, Inc. - Germantown MD
International Classification:
G06F 1300
US Classification:
364200
Abstract:
A flexible, modular communications processor is disclosed comprised of a plurality of microprocessors. A demand assigned bus is provided to couple the microprocessors through an arbitrator to an information storage and retrieval device. Each of the microprocessors comprises a conventional integrated circuit microprocessor, associated local memory, transmitters and receivers for coupling information to and from the bus and bus access circuitry, cooperating with the arbitrator to allocate the bus resource. Communication input/output is handled by a plurality of microprocessors configured as line processors, each coupled to its associated interface switch, which, in turn, is coupled to modems or other input/output devices. A background or executive microprocessor is included to manage system configuration and react to failures. The common bus actually comprises a pair of buses and modularity is provided by allowing the number of line processors to be changed by inserting or deleting circuit cards without affecting the operation of other line processors.

Frame Synchronizer

View page
US Patent:
40028453, Jan 11, 1977
Filed:
Mar 26, 1975
Appl. No.:
5/562366
Inventors:
Pradman P. Kaul - Gaithersburg MD
Pradeep Kaul - Rockville MD
Assignee:
Digital Communications Corporation - Gaithersburg MD
International Classification:
H04J 306
H04L 708
US Classification:
179 15BS
Abstract:
A frame synchronizer is disclosed for searching for the framing bits of an N bit frame in a stream of binary signals. Means are provided to compare, bit by bit, the signals in different bit positions of two adjacent frames. When only a single bit position indicates an alternating pattern of binary signals, it is considered the framing bit and a framing pulse is provided in that bit position. Apparatus is also provided to detect loss of synchronization including a pair of counters, one counting framing pulses and the other counting alternating signals in that bit position. To reduce the likelihood of false out-of-synchronization signals, the second of these counters can be pre-set. Only when the count of the first counter exceeds the number of signals counted by the second counter by this pre-set quantity will out-of-synchronization be declared.

Multi-Subscriber Unit For Radio Communication System And Method

View page
US Patent:
57038813, Dec 30, 1997
Filed:
Mar 9, 1993
Appl. No.:
8/028502
Inventors:
Stanley E. Kay - Rockville MD
Pradeep Kaul - Darnestown MD
Michael I. Parr - San Diego CA
Graham Avis - San Diego CA
John E. Corrigan - Chevy Chase MD
Daniel Wendling - Darnestown MD
Ashok D. Mehta - North Potomac MD
Assignee:
Hughes Electronics - Los Angeles CA
International Classification:
H04J 317
US Classification:
370468
Abstract:
A multisubscriber unit is disclosed for use of in a digital cellular communication system to communicate with a base transceiver station and eventually to switched telephone network. The multisubscriber unit connects to a plurality of individual subscriber telephones. It includes a plurality of upconverters, modulators, downconverters, demodulators speech compressors, speech decompressors, and voice activity detectors that are assigned to a subscriber telephone upon detection of an off hook signal from the telephone. Preferably, upon the detection of data to be transmitted, to channel allocation is requested from a pool of time division multiple access channels in a digital speech interpolation pool.

Electronic Key Telephone System

View page
US Patent:
41601319, Jul 3, 1979
Filed:
Oct 7, 1977
Appl. No.:
5/840451
Inventors:
Pradeep P. Kaul - Rockville MD
Thomas H. Scholl - Rockville MD
Deepak R. Muzundar - Gaithersburg MD
Daniel R. Wendling - Gaithersburg MD
Bob D. Buschman - Gaithersburg MD
Michio Ikawa - Tokyo, JP
Akira Miura - Tokyo, JP
David A. Love - Silver Spring MD
Assignee:
Nippon Electric Company, Ltd. - Tokyo
International Classification:
H04Q 520
US Classification:
179 99M
Abstract:
An electronic key telephone system is disclosed that provides a plurality of telephone features and functions, while only requiring a four-wire line between the central equipment and each key-set telephone (KST) and a two-wire line between the central equipment and each single-line telephone (SLT). Linear delta coding and time division multiplex (TDM) techniques are used to eliminate the multiple pairs required in traditional private business exchange (PBX) systems between the remote key telephones and the control unit. In the present system, a microprocessor controlled TDM controller transmits and receives control signals serially to and from interfaces in the system for control purposes and also for establishing exchange of digitized audio information data between selected interfaces. The system thus exchanges digitized audio information directly between interfaces and provides control signalling between the TDM controller and the interfaces, with all of the exchanges being done in real time. Among other things, the system is compatible with all types of existing central office exchange lines.

Combined Fixed And Mobile Radio Communication System And Method

View page
US Patent:
56338732, May 27, 1997
Filed:
Sep 13, 1995
Appl. No.:
8/528182
Inventors:
Stanley E. Kay - Rockville MD
Pradeep Kaul - Darnestown MD
Michael I. Parr - San Diego CA
Graham Avis - San Diego CA
John E. Corrigan - Chevy Chase MD
Daniel Wendling - Darnestown MD
Ashok D. Mehta - North Potomac MD
Assignee:
Hughes Electronics - Los Angeles CA
International Classification:
H04L 1200
US Classification:
370336
Abstract:
A digital cellular communication system in which fixed subscribers and mobile subscribers share base transceiver stations, base station controllers and mobile switching centers to communicate with the switched telephone network. Mobile subscribers communicate using any cellular radio protocol, while the fixed subscribers communicate via a multi-subscriber unit (MSU) using the inventive air interface. The MSU system uses digital speech interpolation to transmit speech spurts between subscribers and the switched telephone network. Preferably, time division multiple access channels in a digital speech interpolation pool are allocated and deallocated on a speech spurt basis.

Remote Master/Slave Station Clock

View page
US Patent:
39405583, Feb 24, 1976
Filed:
Jan 31, 1975
Appl. No.:
5/546052
Inventors:
Ova Gene Gabbard - Germantown MD
Pradeep Kaul - Rockville MD
Joaquin Hangen - Olney MD
Assignee:
Digital Communications Corporation - Gaithersburg MD
International Classification:
H04L 700
US Classification:
178 695R
Abstract:
A clock for locally distributing a synchronized signal derived from a remotely transmitted signal. The clock normally operates in the slave mode, phase locked to the remotely transmitted signal, when that signal is deemed available. If it is not available the clock switches to a master mode in which it independently generates the necessary signal.
