Disclosed are 2-cyanoethyl amino alkyl-3-phenyl indoles of the formula ##SPC1## Wherein n 1, X. sub. 2, Y. sub. 1 and Y. sub. 2 are hydrogen or halogen, at least one of X. sub. 1 and X. sub. 2 being halogen; n is an integer selected from 1,2 and 3; and the acid addition salts thereof which are useful as antimicrobials.
