Method And Apparatus For Point-To-Point And Point-To-Multipoint Connections In An Atm Network

View page
US Patent:
6466577, Oct 15, 2002
Filed:
Apr 12, 1999
Appl. No.:
09/290051
Inventors:
Pierre A. Humblet - Cambridge MA
Bruce D. Miller - North Reading MA
Raj Shanmugaraj - Groton MA
Steven Sherry - Needham MA
Assignee:
Alcatel Communications, Inc. - Chelmsford MA
International Classification:
H04L 1228
US Classification:
3703953, 370397, 370409
Abstract:
A mechanism for providing point-to-point and point-to-multipoint connections in an ATM network converts VPI/VCI information at an ingress ATM device on incoming cells from a source endpoint to internal VP/VCI information that is used to switch the cells through an ATM network to an egress ATM device. At the egress ATM device, the internal VPI/VCI information is converted back to the source VPI/VCI information for transmission of cells to the destination endpoint. In such a manner, an ATM switch network is able to provide point-to-point connections without requiring individual configuration of VPI/VCI information at the ingress and egress ATM devices.

Filed:
Jun 2, 1999
Appl. No.:
09/324454
Inventors:
Pierre A. Humblet - Cambridge MA, US
Bruce D. Miller - North Reading MA, US
Raj Shanmugaraj - Groton MA, US
Steven Sherry - Needham MA, US
Peter B. Beaulieu - Plaistow NH, US
Michael W. Fortuna - Fremont NH, US
Michael C. Yip - Wellesley MA, US
William Abraham - Windham NH, US
Assignee:
Alcatel Communications, Inc. - Plano TX
International Classification:
H04J 11/06
H04J 3/14
US Classification:
370228, 370227
Abstract:
A system and method for fast and reliable failure notification and accelerated switchover for path protection in a communications network having several overlapping areas of nodes interconnected by communications links is described. Upon a failure event involving one of the communications links, a failure message is broadcast identifying the failed link, the broadcast being confined within the areas which include the failed link. A reliable transmission protocol is provided wherein at one or more of the nodes, a LAPD protocol unnumbered information frame containing the failure message is sent to connected nodes. The failure message is resent in another unnumbered information frame after a time interval unless an unnumbered acknowledgment frame containing or referencing the failure message is received from the connected node. A method of path protection includes establishing plural working paths through the nodes. For each working path, an associated protection path is precalculated.

Abstract:
Data packets are received at a communications node. Each of the received data packets is associated with one of a set of different service classes. Packets corresponding to the received data packets are transmitted to recipients. The order in which the data packets are transmitted is controlled based on the transmission rate and the service class of the packets.

Hybrid Digital/Analog Device

View page
US Patent:
7280592, Oct 9, 2007
Filed:
Oct 23, 1996
Appl. No.:
09/051687
Inventors:
Pierre A. Humblet - Cambridge MA, US
Assignee:
Motorola, Inc. - Schaumburg IL
International Classification:
H04B 1/38
US Classification:
375222, 375220, 379 9301, 379 9307
Abstract:
A device is for communication between a digital adapter linked to an exchange by means of a digital interface and an analog adapter linked to an exchange by means of an analog interface, said exchanges being linked by means of a telecommunications network. Digital information from the digital adapter is sent to the analog adapter, and vice versa, in digital form without emulating an analog signal.

Detection Of Radio Frequency Interference In Wireless Communication Systems

View page
US Patent:
7801487, Sep 21, 2010
Filed:
Dec 29, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/321903
Inventors:
Sepehr Mehrabanzad - Southborough MA, US
Satish Ananthaiyer - Tewksbury MA, US
Pierre A. Humblet - Cambridge MA, US
Assignee:
Airvana, Inc. - Chelmsford MA
International Classification:
H04B 1/00
US Classification:
455 631, 4551142, 455522, 4552781, 370328, 370252
Abstract:
A device causes at least one access terminal that is configured to transmit data to a radio node in a sector of a radio access network to alter transmission. While transmission is altered, the device determines a power of a signal received at the radio node, and updates an average value of signal power using the power measured. A device receives, from one or more access terminals that are configured to receive data from a radio node in a sector of a radio access network, a requested rate at which information should be transmitted to each access terminal, receives from the access terminals information about quality of signals received from the radio node, and generates an event if the requested rate and the information about quality of signals fail to satisfy a condition. An access terminal, located in the vicinity of a first radio node configured to transmit data in a sector of a radio access network, measures signal power of pilot signals received by the access terminal.

Managing Communications With Private Access Points In Wireless Networks

View page
US Patent:
7983672, Jul 19, 2011
Filed:
Dec 19, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/960100
Inventors:
Pierre A. Humblet - Cambridge MA, US
Balaji Raghothaman - Hollis NH, US
Assignee:
Airvana, Corp. - Chelmsford MA
International Classification:
H04W 4/00
US Classification:
4554321, 4554352, 4555521, 370320, 370331
Abstract:
Communication is initiated with a radio access network through a first private access point according to a first air interface standard based on a first identifier corresponding to the first private access point. A second identifier corresponding to the first private access point is determined by using a roaming list. The second identifier is associated with the first identifier in the roaming list. A set of one or more carrier frequencies for communication according to a second air interface standard is determined using the roaming list. The second identifier is mapped to the set of one or more carrier frequencies in the roaming list. Based on the roaming list, initiation of communication with the radio access network is attempted through the first private access point according to the second air interface standard based on the second identifier at one carrier frequency of the set of one or more carrier frequencies.
