System And Method For Adaptive Information Handling System Cooling Profiles

View page
US Patent:
7426109, Sep 16, 2008
Filed:
Nov 16, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/281057
Inventors:
Donald Lindell - Peoria IL, US
Phil Baurer - Leander TX, US
Darrell Chieng - Austin TX, US
Assignee:
Dell Products L.P. - Round Rock TX
International Classification:
H05K 7/20
US Classification:
361687, 361688
Abstract:
An information handling system cooling profile is adjusted as the hardware configuration of the information handling system changes with the addition or removal of processing components. A cooling profile engine adapts the cooling profile to adjust for a processing components thermal profile, such as by retrieving the thermal profile from the component and applying the thermal profile to a cooling profile table to retrieve a cooling profile associated with a configuration having the component. In one embodiment, cooling profile adjustments are managed through a network so that the adjusted cooling profile adapts to other information handling systems operating nearby, such as blade information handling systems of a blade server.

Ensuring Power Availability To A Blade Server When Blade Management Controller Is Corrupted

View page
US Patent:
20070083774, Apr 12, 2007
Filed:
Oct 11, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/247725
Inventors:
Phil Baurer - Leander TX, US
Bryan Krueger - Austin TX, US
International Classification:
G06F 1/00
US Classification:
713300000
Abstract:
An information handling system having a plurality of blade server modules (BSMs) and power supply units (PSUs) uses a module monitor board (MMB) to monitor and control a power budget of the PSUs by each individual BSM requesting authorization from the MMB in order to power ON and boot-up. A blade management controller (BMC) may communicate with the MMB over a communications bus. However, if the firmware application controlling the BMC has been corrupted the BMC it may run in a “boot block” mode and not contain the intelligence necessary to obtain power ON authorization from the MMB. A single, existing input-output (I/O) line from the MMB to the BMC may be utilized to indicate power ON authorization for the respective BSM. The MMB and BMC may be adapted for preventing the BSM from powering ON without proper authorization from the MMB and that the BMC will always power ON the BSM when enough power is available from the PSU. A dual-use of the I/O line may be used for providing a pseudo-communications channel between the MMB and the BMC when the BMC may be in the BOOT BLOCK mode.

Optimized Power And Airflow Multistage Cooling System

View page
US Patent:
20080306633, Dec 11, 2008
Filed:
Jun 7, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/759749
Inventors:
Eric Tunks - Austin TX, US
Paul T. Artman - Austin TX, US
Phil Baurer - Tremont IL, US
Robert L. Riegler - Austin TX, US
Assignee:
DELL PRODUCTS L.P. - Round Rock TX
International Classification:
G05D 23/00
US Classification:
700300
Abstract:
A system for adjusting the operation of a cooling device includes a cooling device, an input sensory device, a control algorithm, and a controller that adjusts operation of the cooling device based on the control algorithm. An embodiment of the control algorithm approximates a plurality of substantially linear cooling curves to relate to portions of a non-linear cooling curve for the cooling device, the algorithm selects a selected cooling curve from the plurality of substantially linear cooling curves based on an input from the sensory device. The system and an associated method may be implemented to cool an information handling system.

System And Method For Determining Proper Downforce For A Planter Row Unit

View page
US Patent:
20100198529, Aug 5, 2010
Filed:
Jan 7, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/679710
Inventors:
Derek A. Sauder - Tremont IL, US
Tim A. Sauder - Tremont IL, US
Justin L. Koch - Deer Creek IL, US
Phil D. Baurer - Tremont IL, US
Assignee:
Precision Planting, Inc. - Tremont IL
International Classification:
G01L 1/00
G06F 19/00
G06F 17/18
US Classification:
702 41
Abstract:
A system and method for determining the appropriate downforce on an agricultural planter row unit that minimizes soil compaction while maintaining desired furrow depth. A load sensor is disposed to generate a load signal corresponding to loading on a depth regulation member of the row unit. In one method a load margin is calculated based on a minimum detected load value. In another method, a load margin is derived through a statistical analysis of the detected load values. The load margin calculated or derived by any of the methods is indicative of the amount of supplemental down force that should be increased or decreased to bring the load margin toward zero. A ground contact parameter may also be used in connection with the load margin to provide further confidence on the proper amount of downforce required to ensure furrow depth while minimizing soil compaction.

Seeding Control System And Method

View page
US Patent:
20130124055, May 16, 2013
Filed:
Jul 27, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/812483
Inventors:
Phil Baurer - Tremont IL, US
Keith Beyer - Leo IN, US
Ben Schlipf - Tremont IL, US
Justin Koch - Deer Creek IL, US
Assignee:
PRECISION PLANTING LLC - Tremont IL
International Classification:
A01C 7/10
G01C 21/00
US Classification:
701 50, 701461
Abstract:
A seeding control system and method to improve yield by minimizing overplanting and underplanting during planting operations. As the planter traverses the field, a precise seed placement map is created by associating the time of each seed pulse generated by the seed sensors with the location of a GPS unit. Based on the generated seed placement map, a stop-planting boundary is defined by previously planted seed or other field boundary such that when a swath of the planter crosses over the stop-planting boundary the swath controllers disengage the drivers of the corresponding seed meters to prevent planting of seeds. The swath controllers cause the drivers to reengage allowing planting to resume when the affected swaths pass out of the stop planting boundary.
