Computer-Based Method And Apparatus For Certifying A File

View page
US Patent:
20050283623, Dec 22, 2005
Filed:
Jun 17, 2004
Appl. No.:
10/870666
Inventors:
Peter Vanderheyden - Naperville IL, US
Timothy Northrup - Summerfield FL, US
Thomas Colson - Clarence Center NY, US
International Classification:
H04L009/32
G06F012/14
G06F011/30
US Classification:
713193000
Abstract:
The invention broadly comprises a computer-based method for certifying files using a specially programmed computer. The method sets parameters for identifying files to process and parameters for a processing schedule. An identified file is digitally fingerprinted. In some aspects, a copy of the file is archived. In some aspects, the archived file is renamed and/or converted to a read-only file. The method creates a Bulk Certification Record (BCR), adds the fingerprint to the BCR, and generates processing reports. The method transmits the BCR to a base computer, which compiles BCR information into a Daily Certification Record (DCR). A digital fingerprint is made of the DCR, and the DCR and the DCR fingerprint are given a respective sequential number. The method publishes the DCR, DCR fingerprint, and the respective sequential numbers both electronically and in print media. The present invention also includes an apparatus to certify a file.

Computer-Based Method And Apparatus For Verifying An Electronic Voting Process

View page
US Patent:
20060169777, Aug 3, 2006
Filed:
Feb 1, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/047782
Inventors:
Thomas Colson - Clarence Center NY, US
Peter Vanderheyden - Naperville IL, US
Mark O'Donnell - Fairport NY, US
Assignee:
IP.com, Inc. - West Henrietta NY
International Classification:
G07C 13/00
US Classification:
235386000
Abstract:
The invention broadly comprises a computer-based method and system for verifying an electronic voting process, comprising the steps of generating an original digital fingerprint of an electronic record at a first time and transmitting the original digital fingerprint. The method generates a validation digital fingerprint of the electronic record at a second time later than the first time and compares the original and validation digital fingerprints. The method generates and compares digital fingerprints of voting software during certification and testing, during installation in a voting machine, while the machine is in government possession, and during active use in a voting period.

Methods For Electronic Document Searching And Graphically Representing Electronic Document Searches

View page
US Patent:
20120221553, Aug 30, 2012
Filed:
Apr 13, 2012
Appl. No.:
13/446105
Inventors:
Philip L. Wittmer - Dayton OH, US
Jon R. Klein - Naperville OH, US
Peter James Vanderheyden - Naperville IL, US
Richard Garner - London, GB
Assignee:
LEXISNEXIS, A DIVISION OF REED ELSEVIER INC. - Miamisburg OH
International Classification:
G06F 17/30
US Classification:
707722, 707775, 707E17014
Abstract:
Methods for electronic document searching and graphically representing an electronic document search are disclosed. In one embodiment, a method of graphically representing electronic document searches includes generating a Venn diagram for display on a graphic display device including a first circle that represents a first document set and a second circle that represents a second document set. The first circle overlaps the second circle in an overlap region depicting common electronic documents that are within the first document set and the second document set. The method further includes generating a first visualization chart from the first circle and a second visualization chart from the second circle. The first visualization chart and the second visualization chart depict proportions of the first document set and the second document set according to a user-defined parameter. Additional search queries may be suggested based on similar topics within electronic documents within the Venn diagram.

Systems And Methods For Enabling Searches Of A Document Corpus And Generation Of Search Queries

View page
US Patent:
20120246173, Sep 27, 2012
Filed:
Mar 21, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/052397
Inventors:
Philip L. Wittmer - Dayton OH, US
Peter J. Vanderheyden - Naperville IL, US
Stuart A. McLean - Liberty Township OH, US
Assignee:
LEXISNEXIS, A DIVISION OF REED ELSEVIER INC. - Miamisburg OH
International Classification:
G06F 17/30
US Classification:
707749, 707769, 707E17014, 707E17069
Abstract:
Systems and methods for searching a document corpus and generating search queries are disclosed. A method includes providing for display a graphical user interface having two or more sections, and providing for generation of an initial search query based on locations of query terms entered into the graphical user interface. Sections of the graphical user interface indicate a query status. A revised search query based on a location of the query terms within the graphical user interface is generated following the manipulation of one or more of the query terms. Movement of a selected query term from a first section to a second section of the graphical user interface changes the query status of the selected query term from a first query status to a second query status. A search of the database is performed using the revised search query to return an updated set of electronic documents for display.
