Abstract:
A process for the detection of antibodies in a test sample by preparing a suspension of erythrocytes with a test serum or plasma by mixing a test serum or plasma with erythrocytes; incubating the suspension of erythrocytes at a temperature of from 37 C. to 45 C. to bind any antibodies in the test serum or plasma to the surface of said erythrocytes; combining the suspension of erythrocytes with an amount of a solution of a macromolecule which is effective to agglutinate the erythrocytes; packing the resultant red cell agglutinates by centrifuging the suspension of erythrocytes; and, determining the presence of anti-erythrocyte antibodies by observing if antibody-dependent erythrocyte agglutination has occurred.

City of Hope - Duarte CA
International Classification:
A61K 31195
C07C22900
US Classification:
560 34
Abstract:
Novel compounds are disclosed which have the formula: ##STR1## wherein R. sub. 1, R. sub. 2, R. sub. 3 and R. sub. 4 may be the same or different and independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, halogen, straight and branched chain alkyl of from 1-6 carbon atoms, aryl, cycloalkyl of 4 to 7 carbon atoms; and alkoxy of 1 to 6 carbon atoms; R. sub. 5 and R. sub. 6 may be the same or different and are selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, halogen, straight and branched chain alkyl groups of from 1-6 carbon atoms, aralkyl groups wherein the alkyl portion has from 1-6 carbon atoms cycloalkyl of from 4-7 carbon atoms and aryl; R. sub. 7 is hydrogen or a straight or branched chain alkyl group of 1-6 carbon atoms and the pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof. These compounds are useful for the treatment of hyperlipidemia and for the in vivo and in vitro treatment of hemoglobin or blood to modify the affinity of hemoglobin for oxygen.

US Patent:
59626518, Oct 5, 1999
Filed:
Jul 31, 1997
Appl. No.:
8/903930
Inventors:
Iraj Lalezari - Scarsdale NY
Parviz Lalezari - Scarsdale NY
Assignee:
Montefiore Medical Center - Bronx NY
International Classification:
A61K 3514
A61K 3816
C07C 6976
US Classification:
530385
Abstract:
The present invention provides a chemically modified form of hemoglobin that is stabilized and can efficiently bind and release oxygen. In addition the chemically modified hemoglobin may be polymerized to increase its molecular weight and increase its stability so that it will have a longer half life in the circulatory system and may be used as a stable oxygen transport mediator which is useful as the basis of a blood substitute.
