On/Off Solenoid Expansion Device

View page
US Patent:
6374624, Apr 23, 2002
Filed:
Mar 8, 2000
Appl. No.:
09/520083
Inventors:
Pandu Cholkeri - Worthington OH
William D. Kramer - Powell OH
Brian Enderle - Dublin OH
Assignee:
Ranco Incorporated - Plain City OH
International Classification:
F25B 4104
US Classification:
62222, 25112921
Abstract:
A refrigerant flow-control valve operable between a no-flow condition and a flow condition in response to a control signal supplied thereto. The flow-control valve includes a tubular-shaped body forming a refrigerant passageway extending from an inlet to an outlet, a cylindrically-shaped restrictor secured within the tube and forming a restriction, and a cylindrically-shaped stop secured within the tube and forming a plunger valve flow passage. The stop is located downstream and spaced-apart from the restrictor and the restriction has a greater resistance to flow than the valve flow passage. A plunger is within the tube between the restrictor and the stop and carries a valve element. The plunger is movable between a first position closing the valve flow passage to generally prevent refrigerant flow therethrough and through the passageway and a second position opening the valve flow passage to permit refrigerant flow therethrough and through the passageway. A compression spring is within the tube between the restrictor and the plunger and resiliently urging the valve element into the first position. A solenoid coil located about the tube adjacent the plunger is adapted to selectively move the valve element to the second position in response to a control signal supplied thereto.

US Patent:
6378328, Apr 30, 2002
Filed:
Apr 24, 2000
Appl. No.:
09/556667
Inventors:
Pandu Cholkeri - Worthington OH
Gary Russo - Delaware OH
William Kramer - Powell OH
Assignee:
Ranco Incorporated - Plain City OH
International Classification:
F25B 4106
US Classification:
62528
Abstract:
A refrigerant flow-control device is automatically operable between a normal or low-flow condition and a pressure relief or high-flow condition in response to pressure drop across the flow-control device, in one embodiment the flow-control device includes a tubular-shaped body having an inlet, an outlet, and a refrigerant passageway extending from the inlet to the outlet, a cylindrically-shaped restrictor secured within the tube and forming a second restriction, and a cylindrically-shaped collar secured within the tube and forming a poppet-valve flow passage. The collar is spaced-apart from the restrictor within the tube. A poppet is located within the tube partially between the restrictor and the collar and carries a valve element. The poppet is movable between a first position closing the poppet-valve flow passage to generally prevent refrigerant flow therethrough and a second position opening the poppet-valve flow passage to permit refrigerant flow therethrough. The poppet forms a first restriction.

Refrigeration System Flow Control Expansion Valve

View page
US Patent:
57157049, Feb 10, 1998
Filed:
Jul 8, 1996
Appl. No.:
8/678553
Inventors:
Pandu R. Cholkeri - Worthington OH
Gary L. Russo - Delaware OH
Thomas W. Parker - Columbus OH
Assignee:
Ranco Incorporated of Delaware - Wilmington DE
International Classification:
F25B 4900
F25B 4104
US Classification:
62527
Abstract:
A refrigeration system including a flow control expansion valve. A valve body defines a valve inlet for accepting refrigerant and a valve outlet for delivering refrigerant that has passed through the valve body. A metering head defines first and second passageways for fluid passing through the valve body. A cylindrical sleeve is mounted for controlled movement within the valve body and including a center passageway which in combination with the first and second passageways conveys fluid through the valve body to the valve outlet. A spring urges the sleeve in a direction relative the metering head to maintain both the first and second passageways in fluid communication with the center passageway of the sleeve. A valve actuator mounted to the valve body moves the sleeve against the biasing action of the spring to restrict flow through one passageway of the first and second passageways while allowing fluid to flow through another of the first and second passageways and said center passageway of said sleeve to the outlet. The valve actuator includes a control input responsive to an external control signal to initiate movement of the sleeve to a position for restricting flow through said one passageway.

Multiple Disc Pressure Responsive Control Device

US Patent:
46670696, May 19, 1987
Filed:
Aug 16, 1985
Appl. No.:
6/766829
Inventors:
Pandu R. Cholkeri - Worthington OH
Assignee:
Ranco Incorporated - Dublin OH
International Classification:
H01H 3534
US Classification:
200 83P
Abstract:
A pressure responsive control device having a pressure housing assembly defining a pressure chamber, an actuable controller fixed to the housing assembly and, a pressure transducer hermetically closing the pressure chamber. The transducer includes plural duplicate snap acting pressure responsive diaphragms, a diaphragm control plate hermetically bonded to the diaphragms and a support member hermetically joined between the control plate and the housing assembly. The diaphragms each are formed from thin sheets of spring metal and includes a central dome section having a surface finish less than 6 microinches A. A. on both sides. The diaphragms are nested together so that confronting faces of the dished sections are engaged when the diaphragms flex.

Filed:
Jan 27, 1984
Appl. No.:
6/574660
Inventors:
Pandu R. Cholkeri - Worthington OH
William A. Anklam - Delaware OH
Assignee:
Ranco Incorporated of Delaware - Dublin OH
International Classification:
G05D 2312
US Classification:
236 99R
Abstract:
A control device is disclosed comprising a supporting housing assembly, a controller switch fixed to the housing, an expansible chamber actuator supported by the housing for actuating the switch, a capillary tube joined to the actuator, and a vibration damper for minimizing vibrational flexure of the capillary tube, the damper defining a first end fixed to the housing, a second end remote from the housing and a passage extending between the ends closely surrounding the capillary tube.
