Aug 27, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/940264
Inventors:
Chris D. Smith - Mountain View CA, US
Pablo E. Garcia - Redwood City CA, US
Thomas P. Low - Belmont CA, US
Eric J. Shrader - Belmont CA, US
Assignee:
SRI International - Menlo Park CA
International Classification:
G01N 1/10
B01L 3/02
B67D 5/22
B67D 5/08
US Classification:
436180, 422100, 222 57, 222639
Abstract:
An apparatus and device for dispensing femtoliter to nanoliter volumes of liquid samples are disclosed. The apparatus includes a liquid-support plate, two electrodes, a substrate, and a control unit. The liquid support plate has a plurality of liquid-support regions, each capable of supporting a liquid meniscus thereon. The first electrode contains a plurality of electrode connections, each operatively connected to one of the liquid support regions, for electrical contact with a meniscus supported in such region. The substrate has a first side confronting the plate and an opposite side, and a plurality of sample-holding regions formed in the first side. The second electrode is disposed adjacent one of the two substrate sides. Thus, a selected volume of the liquid can be ejected from or to one or more of the liquid-support regions to or from one or more of the sample-holding regions.

Electroadhesive Gripping

View page
US Patent:
8325458, Dec 4, 2012
Filed:
Apr 16, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/762260
Inventors:
Harsha E. Prahlad - Cupertino CA, US
Ronald E. Pelrine - Longmont CO, US
Pablo E. Garcia - Menlo Park CA, US
Richard Mahoney - Los Altos CA, US
Joseph S. Eckerle - Woodside CA, US
Assignee:
SRI International - Menlo Park CA
International Classification:
H01T 23/00
US Classification:
361234
Abstract:
An electroadhesive gripping device or system includes a plurality of electroadhesive gripping surfaces, each having electrode(s) and each configured to be placed against respective surface regions of a foreign object, such that one or more electroadhesive forces can be provided between the electroadhesive gripping surfaces and the foreign object. Such electroadhesive forces operating to hold the foreign object against the electroadhesive gripping surfaces while the foreign object is held or moved by the electroadhesive gripping system. The electroadhesive gripping surfaces can be arranged onto a plurality of continuous fingers, and various gripping surfaces on each finger can be coupled together and manipulated with respect to each other by an actuating component, such as a cable actuator. A variable voltage can be delivered to the electrodes to control the amount of electroadhesive force generated, such that only a portion of a foreign object is held or moved.

Check Valve

View page
US Patent:
59412780, Aug 24, 1999
Filed:
Apr 19, 1996
Appl. No.:
8/634845
Inventors:
Hubert Allen Upton - Morgan Hill CA
Pablo Garcia - Stanford CA
Assignee:
General Electric Company - Schenectady NY
International Classification:
F16K 3700
US Classification:
137554
Abstract:
A check valve for use in a GDCS of a nuclear reactor and having a motor driven disk including a rotatable armature for rotating the check valve disk over its entire range of motion is described. In one embodiment, the check valve includes a valve body having a coolant flow channel extending therethrough. The coolant flow channel includes an inlet end and an outlet end. A valve body seat is located on an inner surface of the valve body. The check valve further includes a disk assembly, sometimes referred to as the motor driven disc, having a counterweight and a disk shaped valve. The disk valve includes a disk base having a seat for seating with the valve body seat. The disk assembly further includes a first hinge pin member which extends at least partially through the disk assembly and is engaged to the disk. The disk valve is rotatable relative to the first hinge pin member. The check valve also includes a motor having a stator frame with a stator bore therein.

Deep-Learning-Based Real-Time Remaining Surgery Duration (Rsd) Estimation

View page
US Patent:
20220296334, Sep 22, 2022
Filed:
Mar 22, 2021
Appl. No.:
17/208715
Inventors:
- Santa Clara CA, US
Jocelyn Elaine Barker - San Jose CA, US
Pablo Eduardo Garcia Kilroy - Menlo Park CA, US
International Classification:
A61B 90/00
G06N 3/08
G06N 3/04
Abstract:
Embodiments described herein provide a surgical duration estimation system for continuously predicting real-time remaining surgical duration (RSD) of a live surgical session of a given surgical procedure based on a real-time endoscope video of the live surgical session. In one aspect, the process receives a current frame of the endoscope video at a current time of the live surgical session, wherein the current time is among a sequence of prediction time points for making continuous RSD predictions during the live surgical session. The process next randomly samples N-1 additional frames of the endoscope video corresponding to the elapsed portion of the live surgical session between the beginning of the endoscope video corresponding to the beginning of the live surgical session and the current frame corresponding to the current time. The process then combines the N-1 randomly sampled frames and the current frame in the temporal order to obtain a set of N frames. Next, the process feeds the set of N frames into a trained model for the given surgical procedure. The process subsequently outputs a current RSD prediction based on the set of N frames.
