Filed:
Nov 22, 2000
Appl. No.:
09/718326
Inventors:
Orson Szu-Han Wang - Ann Arbor MI
Assignee:
Robert Bosch Corporation - Broadview IL
International Classification:
G08B 2900
US Classification:
340506, 340442, 340443, 340444, 340438, 73146, 116 34 R
Abstract:
A system for detecting a deflated tire on a vehicle. The system includes an evaluating process that determines when a tire is likely to be deflated and issues a warning when the evaluating process determines a tire is likely to be deflated. The system further includes a feedback component that provides feedback to the evaluating process indicating whether the issued warning was erroneous. In one aspect of the invention, the feedback component makes corrections to the evaluating process. In another aspect of the invention, the feedback component is a direct feedback component. In yet another aspect of the invention, the feedback component is an inferred feedback component.

Position Sensor Arrangement And Method

View page
US Patent:
8004275, Aug 23, 2011
Filed:
Jan 29, 2009
Appl. No.:
12/361889
Inventors:
Orson S. Wang - Livonia MI, US
John N. Stockbridge - Novi MI, US
Jonathon K. Ho - Oshawa, CA
Assignee:
GM Global Technology Operations LLC - Detroit MI
International Classification:
G01B 7/14
US Classification:
32420724, 345161
Abstract:
A position sensor arrangement and method for determining the position of a movable device, such as an electronic gear shifter for vehicle. According to one embodiment, the position sensor arrangement is arranged in a skewed or offset fashion, with respect to the shifting pattern of the electronic gear shifter, such that movement of the gear shifter from one discrete position to an adjacent discrete position causes a change in both an x-axis coordinate and a y-axis coordinate.

Vehicular Display Device And Method Of Operation

View page
US Patent:
8138906, Mar 20, 2012
Filed:
Mar 2, 2009
Appl. No.:
12/396146
Inventors:
Orson S. Wang - Livonia MI, US
Maureen L. Roth - Clarkston MI, US
Assignee:
GM Global Technology Operations LLC - Detroit MI
International Classification:
B60Q 1/00
US Classification:
340456, 701 1, 477906, 74335, 192 481
Abstract:
An information presentation system for a vehicle is provided. The vehicle comprises a transmission operable in a plurality of gear states. The system comprises a sensor adapted to detect a gear state of the transmission, an electronic control system adapted to operate the transmission and to detect a gear state of the transmission, and a display device coupled to the sensor and to the electronic control system. The display device is adapted to receive a first signal indicating the gear state of the transmission, to receive a second signal indicating the gear state of the transmission, and to adjust an arrangement of visual elements in a manner influenced by the first and second signals.

Electronic Transmission Shifting Architecture With Maximized Availability

View page
US Patent:
8155847, Apr 10, 2012
Filed:
Jul 24, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/178870
Inventors:
Orson S. Wang - Livonia MI, US
International Classification:
G06F 17/00
US Classification:
701 54, 701 62, 477111
Abstract:
A system comprises a shifter module, an engine control module, and a transmission control module. The shifter module generates a position signal based on a position of a driver input. The engine control module controls an engine, selects one of a plurality of transmission gear ranges based on a mapping of the position signal to the plurality of transmission gear ranges, and generates a range request signal based on the selected transmission gear range. The transmission control module controls a transmission based on the range request signal.

Gear And Mode Selection For Transmissions Using A Single Input Device

View page
US Patent:
20090299585, Dec 3, 2009
Filed:
Jul 30, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/182583
Inventors:
Christopher J. Trush - Novi MI, US
Orson S. Wang - Livonia MI, US
Assignee:
GM GLOBAL TECHNOLOGY OPERATIONS, INC. - DETROIT MI
International Classification:
G06F 19/00
US Classification:
701 52
Abstract:
A transmission of a vehicle has a first gear and a second gear that corresponds to a lower gear ratio than the first gear. A transmission management system for the transmission comprises an enabling module, a shift control module, and a disabling module. The enabling module enables a second gear start mode of the transmission when a vehicle speed is less than a predetermined speed. The shift control module commands operation of the transmission in the second gear when the second gear start mode is enabled. The disabling module selectively disables the second gear start mode when a user commands a gear shift to the first gear while the second gear start mode is enabled and prevents the enabling module from re-enabling the second gear start mode after the second gear start mode is disabled.

Position Sensor Arrangement

US Patent:
20100060577, Mar 11, 2010
Filed:
Sep 8, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/205991
Inventors:
Orson S. Wang - Livonia MI, US
Assignee:
GM Global Technology Operations, Inc. - Detroit MI
International Classification:
G09G 5/08
US Classification:
345161
Abstract:
A position sensor arrangement that can determine the two-dimensional position of a variety of different movable devices, such as an electronic joystick. According to one embodiment, the position sensor arrangement includes two pair of magnetic sensing elements that are angularly offset or skewed with respect to one another in order to provide redundancy and accuracy with a minimum number of sensing elements.

Latching Shifter With Override Feature

View page
US Patent:
20120285284, Nov 15, 2012
Filed:
May 11, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/105039
Inventors:
Orson S. Wang - Livonia MI, US
Assignee:
GM GLOBAL TECHNOLOGY OPERATIONS LLC - Detroit MI
International Classification:
F16H 59/04
US Classification:
744733
Abstract:
A latching shifter with override feature is interfaced with a shift-by-wire transmission, wherein the latching of the shifter with respect to a gear cam is autonomously synchronized to a gear selected by the electronics of the transmission whenever the shifter is physically at another gear via autonomous actuation of a gear synchronization cam having an inclined cam follower guide surface. The incline urges the cam follower under its inherent biasing into the gear notch corresponding to the gear selected by the electronics of the transmission.

Electronic Shifter With Adaptive Position

View page
US Patent:
20130061706, Mar 14, 2013
Filed:
Sep 14, 2011
Appl. No.:

Abstract:
A latching shifter mated with a shift-by-wire transmission in which the gear cam includes a momentary shift lever position which is spring biased toward the drive gear notch. A driver is enabled to shift the transmission into a desired gear by passing the shift lever into and out of the momentary shift lever position in the event of autonomous shifting by the transmission or to otherwise provide a selected gear of the transmission. Preferably a dynamically changeable gear shift display is provided, the indicia of which is responsive to the gear status of the transmission.
