Dampening Stop Pin

View page
US Patent:
20060283984, Dec 21, 2006
Filed:
Jun 15, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/453133
Inventors:
Olaf Enke - Columbia SC, US
International Classification:
F02M 59/46
F02M 63/00
US Classification:
239533200, 123467000
Abstract:
A dampening stop pin that reduces a needle velocity at the time when the needle valve of a fuel injector is about to be seated in a closed position. A gap between a bottom surface of the stop-pin flange and a sealing seat of a nozzle is provided to compress the fuel trapped therein to form a fuel cushion that dampens the closing motion of the needle. Moreover, a diametrical clearance between an outer circumferential edge of the flange and an inner surface of a needle spring cage must be sized to prevent undesired high pressure from building up in the gap by venting a quantity of compressed fuel while still permitting the fuel cushion to dampen the closing force of the needle.

Injector Fluid Filter With Upper And Lower Lip Seal

View page
US Patent:
20200063624, Feb 27, 2020
Filed:
Aug 21, 2018
Appl. No.:
16/106891
Inventors:
- Lake Forest IL, US
Olaf ENKE - Clinton MI, US
International Classification:
F01N 3/20
Abstract:
An injector for injecting a reagent includes an axially translatable valve member positioned within a housing. A flux sleeve is surrounded by a coil of an electromagnet. A pole piece defines a return passageway for reagent to flow. A filter surrounds the pole piece and includes a cage and a mesh fixed to the cage. The cage includes a deformable first seal biasedly engaging an outer surface of the pole piece. The cage includes a second seal biasedly engaging the housing. The first and second seals define a closed volume such that all of the reagent flowing through the injector passes through the mesh.

Fluid Pump With Shim And Related Methods Of Manufacture

View page
US Patent:
20190128256, May 2, 2019
Filed:
Oct 30, 2017
Appl. No.:
15/797101
Inventors:
- Lake Forest IL, US
Olaf ENKE - Clinton MI, US
International Classification:
F04C 2/08
Abstract:
A fluid pump includes a gear housing with a pocket wall and a base. The pocket wall and the base define a pocket that projects into the gear housing from a pocket surface. The fluid pump also includes a first gear rotatably positioned in the pocket. The first gear is spaced from the pocket surface by a first gap. The fluid pump also includes a second gear rotatably positioned in the pocket that engages the first gear. The second gear is spaced from the pocket surface by a second gap. The fluid pump also includes a selected shim that is selected from a plurality of shims in a shim set. The selected shim has a thickness that results in a desired clearance between the selected shim and the first face or the second face.

Reagent Injector Freeze Protection

View page
US Patent:
20180328250, Nov 15, 2018
Filed:
Jul 25, 2018
Appl. No.:
16/045036
Inventors:
- Lake Forest IL, US
Alan Brockman - Grass Lake MI, US
Olaf Enke - Grass Lake MI, US
Mark Devito - Grass Lake MI, US
International Classification:
F01N 3/20
F02M 53/04
B01D 53/94
Abstract:
An injector for injecting a reagent includes a first injector body and a second injector body. The first injector body includes an outlet opening. The second injector body includes a reagent tube. The second injector body is movable relative to the first injector body. The injector further includes a valve assembly at least partly enclosed by the first injector body. The valve assembly is configured to selectively dispense the reagent through the outlet opening of the first injector body. The injector further includes a spring member positioned between the first injector body and the second injector body. The spring member is pre-loaded to bias the second injector body towards the first injector body. The spring member is further configured to limit a maximum movement of the second injector body relative to the first injector body in response to expansion of the reagent during freezing.
