View page
US Patent:
6361150, Mar 26, 2002
Filed:
Aug 30, 1999
Appl. No.:
09/385298
Inventors:
Donald W. Schulte - Corvallis OR
Matthew Giere - San Diego CA
Tyler Sims - San Diego CA
Noah C. Lassar - San Diego CA
Mary Kent - Corvallis OR
Assignee:
Hewlett-Packard Company - Palo Alto CA
International Classification:
B41J 205
US Classification:
347 56, 347 64
Abstract:
This present invention is embodied in a system and a method for protecting an electrically-inactive component of a microsystem from an ESD event. The invention includes embodiments that protect the microsystem from ESD events that directly strike an electrically-inactive component and that are external to the electrically-inactive component. The present invention includes an ESD dissipation device having a connected chain of electrically-inactive components that are electrically floating. Alternatively, the electrically-inactive components can be held at the same potential as an electrical component. Further, a sacrificial ESD breakdown device is included that provides a preferential ESD breakdown site away from the protected component. Also, capacitively coupled thin-film layers can provide shielding to electrically-inactive components.

Method For Controlling The Over-Energy Applied To An Inkjet Print Cartridge Using Dynamic Pulse Width Adjustment Based On Printhead Temperature

View page
US Patent:
6302507, Oct 16, 2001
Filed:
Oct 13, 1999
Appl. No.:
9/416800
Inventors:
Satya Prakash - Poway CA
Ronald A Askeland - San Diego CA
Clayton L Holstun - San Marcos CA
Noah C. Lassar - San Diego CA
Assignee:
Hewlett-Packard Company - Palo Alto CA
International Classification:
B41J 205
US Classification:
347 14
Abstract:
A temperature control system for an inkjet printhead assembly includes a printhead assembly having ink ejection elements energizable by an electrical pulse having an amplitude and pulse width, a sensor coupled to the printhead assembly for generating a signal representative of a printhead temperature. A controller reads a nominal operating pulse width, pulse width calibration data and the signal from the sensor. The controller calculates an adjusted pulse width using the nominal operating pulse width, the pulse width calibration data and the signal from the sensor. The controller uses the adjusted pulse width to control the printhead temperature.

US Patent:
6290331, Sep 18, 2001
Filed:
Jul 18, 2000
Appl. No.:
9/618992
Inventors:
Arun K. Agarwal - Corvallis OR
Jennifer Korngiebel - San Diego CA
Kit Christopher Baughman - Boise ID
Matthew D. Giere - San Diego CA
Ronald A. Askeland - San Diego CA
Noah C. Lassar - San Diego CA

Salim Khasawinah - Corvallis OR
Assignee:
Hewlett-Packard Company - Palo Alto CA
International Classification:
B41S 214
B41S 2135
US Classification:
347 47
Abstract:
A novel polymeric orifice plate for a printhead. The plate includes a recess in the top surface thereof which terminates at a position between the top and bottom plate surfaces. The recess communicates with a bore which passes through the remainder of the plate and terminates at the bottom surface. The recess has an upper end with a first opening therein, a lower end with a second opening therein, a side wall, and a bottom wall at the lower end The first opening is larger than the second opening. Application of physical force to the plate does not disturb the second opening in the recess which is "inset". The recessed bottom wall (and possibly the top surface) of the plate may include at least one layer of coating material thereon for protective, wettability-control, and other purposes. These designs insure proper ink drop trajectory and high-quality image generation.

Methods For Forming And Protecting Electrical Interconnects And Resultant Assemblies

View page
US Patent:
7338149, Mar 4, 2008
Filed:
Jun 24, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/166301
Inventors:
Mohammad Akhavain - Escondido CA,
Joseph E. Scheffelin - Poway CA,
Noah Lassar - San Diego CA,
Conrad Lepe - Escondido CA,

US Classification:
347 50, 347 58
Abstract:
The described embodiments relate to methods and systems for forming and protecting electrical interconnect assemblies. In one embodiment, an electrical interconnect assembly forming method forms an electrical interconnect between one or more conductors of a first support structure and one or more conductors of a second support structure. The method also distributes a generally flowable material over the electrical interconnect and exposes the generally flowable material to conditions sufficient to render the generally flowable material into a generally non-flowable state that provides fluid protection to the electrical interconnect and supports the electrical interconnect to reduce stress concentration at the electrical interconnect.
