Integrated Tank Erection And Support Carriage For A Semi-Membrane Lng Tank

View page
US Patent:
6626319, Sep 30, 2003
Filed:
Jun 25, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/179746
Inventors:
Neil M. Miller - Mahwah NJ
David L. Jordan - Pawcatuck CT
Joseph J. Cuneo - Dobbs Ferry NY
Edmund G. Tornay - Wadmalaw SC
Assignee:
Electric Boat Corporation - Groton CT
International Classification:
B65D 9012
US Classification:
22056007, 22056008, 22056011, 22056012, 22056015, 220 15, 220562
Abstract:
In the typical embodiment of the invention described in the specification, a prismatic semi-membrane LNG tank is assembled within a support carriage surrounding the top and side walls of the tank and is connected to the tank by a plurality of load bearing insulating support blocks affixed to T-shaped beams on the tank and received in channel shaped members on the support carriage. The tank is assembled within the carriage which is slidably received within a temporary supporting structure and, when the tank has been completed, the integrated carriage and the tank are transferred to the hull of a ship or other permanent support structure. A pipe tower within the tank is affixed to the bottom wall of the tank and slidably connected to a tank dome at the top of the tank which is welded to the top wall of the tank. Stop members limit downward motion of the tank tower with respect to the top wall of the tank.

Stable Silica-Based Ether Bonded Phases For Biopolymer Separations

View page
US Patent:
47789093, Oct 18, 1988
Filed:
May 11, 1984
Appl. No.:
6/609272
Inventors:
Barry L. Karger - Chestnut Hill MA
Binyamin Feibush - Needham MA
Neil T. Miller - West Newton MA
Alvaro Figueroa - Boston MA
Assignee:
Northeastern University - Boston MA
International Classification:
C07F 708
C07F 718
C07F 710
US Classification:
556450
Abstract:
Fast high resolution separations of biopolymers with retention of biological activity have been achieved by hydrophobic interaction chromatography using trialkoxy silyl ethers of the general formula (RO). sub. 3 Si--(CH. sub. 2). sub. m --O--(CH. sub. 2 CH. sub. 2 O). sub. n --(CH. sub. 2). sub. p R' chemically bonded to silica-based chromatographic supports. In the formula R is alkyl of from one to five carbons, m is an integer from two to five, n is an integer from one to five, p is an integer from zero of ten, and R' is methyl, phenyl, or substituted phenyl. Stable and reproducible bonded phases are prepared in a novel solventless procedure by a bonding process which uses a defined and controlled amount of water on the silica surface and a gaseous or volatile basic catalyst such as ammonia to produce a controlled amount of silane polymerization and cross-linking in addition to extensive bonding between silane and silica. High performance liquid chromatography on such weakly hydrophobic stationary phases using aqueous eluents and decreasing salt gradients under mild conditions permits high speed, high resolution separations of biopolymers such as proteins without destruction of their biological activity and without column degradation. Size exclusion chromatography can also be performed on these phases using low ionic strength eluents.

Electronic Stereo Reverberation Device With Doubler

View page
US Patent:
44894392, Dec 18, 1984
Filed:
Sep 20, 1982
Appl. No.:
6/420282
Inventors:
Donald T. Scholz - Wayland MA
Neil A. Miller - Newtonville MA
Assignee:
Scholz Research & Development - Waltham MA
International Classification:
H03G 300
US Classification:
381 63
Abstract:
A stereo or two channel electronic reverberation device is disclosed comprising an analog delay device which receives audio signals and provides delayed output signals at a plurality of outputs, with the time delay period of each output being different from the delay period of other outputs. Two summing devices each receive inputs from different combinations of the analog delay device outputs to provide two different signals having different reverb components. An additional output delay device is also provided with receives the last output from the analog delay device, delays this signal a time period substantially greater than the time period between any two adjacent analog delay device outputs, and provides this substantially greater delayed signal to only one of said summing devices. The circuit includes a synthetic doubler which provides an output cyclicly varying in pitch from its input. Two output mixers provide reverb alone, doubler signal alone or both reverb and doubling.
