Officer Natalie Corona was responding to a three-car crash in downtown Davis Thursday night when she was shot and killed just two weeks after she completed her field training and six months after graduating from the police academy.
Natalie Corona knew from a young age she wanted to be a police officer. She wanted to follow in the footsteps of her father, a 26-year veteran of the Colusa County Sheriffs Department. When she graduated from the police academy in July, he was there to pin the badge on her vest.

A fire station down the street immediately responded to the incident and began CPR on Natalie Corona, Doroshov said. She was transported in critical condition to UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento, where she was later pronounced dead.
Word of Natalie Coronas death quickly rippled through the department and neighboring law enforcement agencies. Juarez said she was immediately alerted of the shooting with a message Thursday night that read shots fired and officer down, but she had no idea it was Corona.
